a different approach - but it works for me (to a certain degree)

I have a squeeze page where people who are interested in seo (and website optimization in general) can opt in for a free report.

I give 'em some standard information in the free report and (spread over a few days) some general tips.

At the end of each mail i include my 0900 premium phone number ("call me to learn about some killer strategies on how to boost your roi")

Each phone consultation lasts about 20-30 minutes, netting me some good bucks. Okay, only one third or so of the people who opted in actually calls me, but still - i make some money from this.

Wow... excellent! Way to think out of the box! Putting that one down in the idea folder

Imaddict, glad you like that idea! It really works. One thing i need to clarify tho is: I wrote "at the end of each mail i include my #" - i don't just include a footer with my number, i work it directly into the text,
    eg:
"blahblah.. so, that's basically what you need to know about the sales-funnel. Of course there's a slight bit more about it but why don't you just give me short call at *phone number* and i'll give you the inside scoop"

    Chris,

That's a really great way to make extra bucks. I didn't know of anyone who was using that technique until now. I first heard of this tactic from the book "Four Hour Work Week" by Timothy Ferris. He has alot of useful information in the book, but I am not sure if most of the links still work in that book.

Way to go for taking a page out of the book of Lawyers and Accountants. Nothing more easier than just giving advice to someone and getting paid for it. Psychiatrists make easy money too! Sit on a couch and listen to people. Amazing!

I don't understand how you can earn money from this, perhaps someone could expand a little. Where does the money come from, the caller or the phone company or what?

    Sean,

Here in the States, it's a toll call...the business charges the caller $x.xx per minute. Then the telephone company collects this from the caller, takes a cut, and sends the rest to the business. For example, some video game publishers offer game hints through 900 numbers...for a fee, of course.

I would wager there are a few ebooks teaching how to make money from 900 numbers.

(I don't know what the equivalent would be in the UK...)

Just curious- does the phone company a flat rate per minute or a % or what? Any idea how big a cut they take?

In the UK I've used an 0870 number which provides the same sort of thing and is very cheap to set up.

You can usually earn 2-4p per minute using one of these services.

Nice post Chris, good example of thinking outside the box.

There's also a service called Ether.com which lets you charge for telephone calls and emails...

It's set up for professionals such as therapist, counselors and advisers!

Just realized i forgot one thing.. the deeper they 'fall' into your sales funnel, the higher your 900-rates should go, e.g.

first email = first free basic tip -> call me for more = $.99/minute
second email = second free more advanced tip -> call me for more = $1.99/minute
third email = third free supermofo tip -> call me for more = $2.99/minute
