The Emails That Made Me The Most Money

The emails I sent to my list, that made me the most money, also created the most negative response.

I wonder if anyone else has seen this in their own marketing.

I had the most orders and the most complaints. People writing back to me saying that my email sounded desperate, that it was too pushy, too often, and even wanting to teach me marketing.

But like I said, it also produced the most orders.

A quote I once heard that sums this up by an older well know direct marketer was "I've been doing this for around 30 years and I know how to show you a huge stack of orders, and a huge stack of complaints, but I don't know how to show you one stack without the other"

  • It's so true.

That doens't mean you should ignore complaints, but also know that quite a few people reject being sold anything and that people are at different stages of trusting you on your email list.

That's why you should incorporate selling into your autoresponder so it isn't a broadcast to everyone, regardless of how long they have been a member of your list.

Complaints are interesting. In my experience, many people who complain, for something like "too many emails" would never become a customer anyway. I've had people tell me I should only send an email once a month. I've had other complaints as well...but you have to know when to ignore them. You can't please everyone.

There are other times, when people thank you for your emails, and that they were so helpful...problem is, those emails don't produce many sales and those thank yous are not money in the bank.

Ask them straight - would that make them buy?

If not, then you don't need to please them. Stick with the ones who buy.

You're not in it to entertain and fill up peoples' spare time.
