It is definitely sucking. But only because people spent so much on Christmas, January is a slow month for all retailers. Don't let it get you down.

I did quite well with the Christmas crowd, and numbers are lower now, but still decent. I've got all of my sites set on autopilot and check in every couple of days to see how much they've made and focus on other projects now.

I started in November with limited experience, but I learned right away that you need to have traffic to sell anything. If you want to sell hamburgers, you need a hungry crowd.

Put your name in front of people. Youtube is good, learn ppc (use up the free $100 adwords coupon at least), guest write on popular blogs. Lots of different ways to get more eyes on your goods.

Same here usually at this time of the month my Clicks are around 2800 per account and its like 120 and 54 So its definitely off, you sort of expect it in Jan and Feb, with a pickup around March or May, but you just dont know these days.

It depends on what you compare it to. Compared to December, 2010 (my all-time best month as an Amazon Associate for many years now), January's a flop. Compared to Jan. 2010, however, it's on track to do a bit better. So I'm not unhappy at all. Amazon rocks!

I wouldn't worry about it. January is just a slow month for everybody . . .

In fact, most industries, especially those like restraunts and entertainment always experience the smallest amount of sales in January. As mentioned above everyone is trying to catch back up from christmas . . .

Just wait for the income taxes to start being distributed and you'll see your sales pick back up again

    Good Luck

I just started to see success with Amazon in December last year when my site hit the bottom of page one in Google.

Just this month my site is now sitting in position one for its main keyword & my site is getting around 200 visits per day.

The site is also making sales every single day from the start of January.

I've also heard sales take a drop in January - if this is the case I'm looking forward to a climb in sales for the months ahead.

I am, surprisingly, on track for making even more than I did in December. Yesterday was a personal best in sales, although I didn't sell anything for 2 days prior to that. It also helps that I hit a higher pay bracket than I did in December.

I think this is largely due to my sites gaining a lot of traffic over December, though. All of my sites were built in November or December, so as they mature a bit the traffic has been growing.

Like BarryOnline, if January is supposed to be bad, I can't wait to see what happens later. I honestly expected this month to be a disappointment over what I made last month.

Well, you can look at it this way....It is no longer the Christmas season and many people spend much more in November and December on things you might find on Amazon, than they do in January. This is a normal trend and will turn around like it does every year.

Another thing to consider is that certain products are seasonal and can help boost your January months in the future. This is when many people are trying to lose weight, quit smoking, and other things that go along with new year's resolutions. If you have some of these things set up to be promoted, then you will be able to make up for the lost income on other products that don't sell as well in January.

My Amazon Associates and AdSense earnings are both "down" at the moment, but then I somewhat expected it to be so, and as such aren't in any way alarmed or worried.

Should hopefully improve soon, as January comes to an end, and I expect - as bgmacaw has said - traffic and income in certain seasonal niches, which have been a little on the dormant side recently, will begin to pick up, too.

Yes it's been a slow month for me too.. I have been promoting more stuff than ever, but my steady sales over the last 4 months (around $300/month) have dropped to less than half of that so far.. Unless the end of the month picks up, it's going to be a slow one for me too..

I find developing amazon in the yearly niches pays off over time, Christmas Sites, Summer, Easter, events or periods of times trigger sales in different areas. Mapping this and developing sites to pick up when others die may help keep constant cash flow.

What's going on is that most buyers don't have any money to start the year because of Xmas and New Year's! January is usually slow for most things. Focus on seasonal spikes like large screen TV purchases for the Super Bowl or New Year's resolution related stuff, like diets/weight loss/bodybuilding and upcoming valentine's day.

Yup, better days are coming. You also have the 'tax refund' season coming up, at least in the USA. Many people use mandatory confiscation (I mean withholding) as a kind of forced savings account. When they get that refund, they can't wait to spend it on something.

Some are so eager, they'll give a ridiculous chunk away to get a "refund anticipation loan" with service fees that would make a loan shark blush with shame...

I've noticed my adsense clicks worth a bit lower this month but may still beat last month...December was amazingly high!

What's February like usually? Can we expect improvement from January?

A good tip for slow times of the year is target very very niche products, overtime this will boost your sales in the dark times.

Yep January sucks according to my Amazon stats. I just got my first 2 sales for the month yesterday and they weren't even for the products I promote but for something small with only a $2 commission Can't wait til it starts to pick up again

I guess it serves me right, but my sales dropped pretty drastically in the later half of the month. I did make more than December, but just barely. Here's to hoping February is better. :p

Definitely picking up over here - but I've been doing a lot more active promotion of my Amazon affiliate sites this month, whereas they've been pretty passive in the past. Curious to see how the next few months go!
