How do you create this graphics effect???

Hey everyone,

Quick question - I've been seeing this really cool "white border plus shadow" look on sales page photos all over the internet. Here's an example from Russell Brunson's 20 Minute Payday site:

See how the photos are stacked and have slight shadows behind them? I love this effect because it makes the photos look real and tangible.

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Russ

It looks like you could just apply a 5 -10px stroke to the photo apply a drop shadow at about 60 degrees and also an small possibly smoothed inner bevel(All in Photoshop). It is all in the blending options of each layer.

    If you have photoshop.

Make sure your canvas area is larger than your image.

Add a Stroke effect, around 8px, stroke color: FFFFFF (white)

Add an Outer Glow effect, blend mode: normal, color: 959595 (light grey), spread: 35, size: 18

That'll give you a pretty nice start

After that just duplicate your layer and rotate the bottom layer a little for the stacked effect.

It's just a stroke and a drop shadow.

Create a new image then CONTROL+D to PLACE your photo into it. From the layers window select the layer containing your photo. Right Click the layer and choose BLENDING OPTIONS. From the selection menu on the left side of the blending options dialog select the drop shadow option. Keep everything default except these settings. Set distance to 9px, spread to 8px and size to 9px.

Then select the STROKE option from the left menu, change the color to white and the size to 5-10px. Just keep adjusting the size until it looks right.

And if you don't have Photoshop, but have another program where you can crop, copy and paste images, you can try searching Google for free photo frame borders. Then you can resize your cropped imaged and just paste it on top.

I have Photoshop myself so it wouldn't take me too long either way.

Yeah, it's a fairly easy procedure for anyone with a graphics program with basic knowledge of how to use it. I've used that effect several times myself and takes a matter of seconds to implement.

      Hi Russ,

If you have photoshop, just PM me for the action script that makes this simple to do. If you don't have it, then I can do it for you if you don't have that many pics.

      Best,

      Jon

You can do something like this online at Phixr - Online Photo Editor.

Use the 'Make Instant Photo' button 3rd button from the bottom in the left column of options. Play with the rotation, bend and other features. It's not quite the effect you were asking about, but you can create some interesting features quickly and simply. You can change the background color to match you website, etc. (The background on this one is white because I don't know the color of the forum post background. Can someone tell me the rgb color for the forum background by any chance?)

(Pictures removed - need more space in my image hosting account...)

      Hi Val, love it!

I hadn't seen Phirx before - have used Pixlr which is great but has a few limitations one of which is adding a drop shadow.

      Thanks for the post
      Libby

PS: Forum background is F5F5F5 (according to Firebug!)

      Sorry, RGB is 245 245 245
(and meant to say I used ColorZilla, not Friebug)
