Why Is Blog Falling In Google

26 replies
I have a blog that was getting over 2000 visits a day and was in the top three for it's keyword plus it ranked well for many other terms.

It has not been in Google's index for about a week.

For the last year the only links to have been from UAW's blog system. Is it possible that it is being penalized for only having one type of link.

The blog is about three years old so it is not new.

Should I add some different kind of links or would it be better to keep doing what I have been doing and be patient.

    I think you are encountering a phenomenon called google dance, so the only thing you have to do is just wait, if it doesn't come up in the next week then try to see if you site is still in the index: (site:mysite.com). If it is not then yes, you have been penalized.

    Do you mean that it is totally deindexed or just that it is no longer ranking for your keywords?

    If it's de-indexed (nothing shows up when you do site:www.yourdomain.com) then you might check in google webmaster tools to see if there is a clue.

    If it has dropped in rank, then you should definately work on a more diverse backlinking strategy. The thing with networks like that which consist of user contribued blogs is that a lot of people lose interest in their blogs and don't renew the domains - all your links are then gone.

    It could be that you lost a lot of links, or your drop could be something else entirely - maybe competitors that have a better back link plan came on the scene and displaced you?

    One thing to consider is to get some backlinks to your backlinks that way instead of only a bunch of PR0 links pointing to you, you will have some with higher authority as well.

    If it was completely de-indexed for your keyword, you might have been blacklisted. Were you using any grey-area marketing or SEO tactics?

    I think you should just be patient and keep adding new content. I'm not sure what has happened to your site. However, I had a problem like a that a couple years ago where I was building thousands of backlinks through article links. My site dropped into the 500-800 range. Maybe your site hit a Google filter.

      If I type in the domain it is 45 for broad search and 50 for phrase match but if I use Market Samurai Rank Tracker it dose not show up at all.

          The site is about 10% article content that I have written or bought good quality articles. It is about 90% auto-fed content from YouTube and Yahoo Answers.
          {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3210986].message }}
          • There's your answer -- you need more original content. Even just one unique page per week should do it.

            Oh, and you need more link diversity. After a while Google catches up on things.

            • Sorry for the double post. But think about it this way, if Google sees links and content basically STOP. Your rankings are going to drop eventually. The pros having content machines constantly feeding the beast.

              Hope that helps.

                I really don't want to add links just yet, I'm a bit curious if it will come back on it's own.
                {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3211426].message }}
                • Add content then, original content --one page a week, it'll take you 15 mins. a week to write a page with 500 words if you know the subject matter.

                  However, and this is very important for everybody to fully grasp, sites will start to die on you, if you don't constantly feed them with content and links. Every site that you own needs maintenance or it will begin to wither, it may not happen today or tomorrow, but it will happen eventually.

                  Search engine rankings are like the ocean, most of the time calm, and at other times you will see vicious storms (drops). Just keep building your "islands" with a happy face -- whistle while you work, and all will be well.

                  When formulating your business plans, take this sobering fact into account. Add at least page a week to every site you own, and add links every week -- even if it's just social bookmarks and blog comments.

    I wouldn't stop linking. Keep doing what you are doing, and the google dance will usually end up with you back where you were. I found out the hard way that if I stopped what I was doing when my rank dropped, I had a harder time getting back up.

    Make some new links!!!! NOW!!!! and from diverse IP's I would buy a couple of backlink packets here and a couple from fiverr.com and add them ASAP... then either write or outsource some fresh articles and add one a day for a couple of weeks ...that should do the trick...Why do you want to sit around waiting??? be proactive and sort it out...it ain't gonna get better on it's own mate..

      I have Angela's BackLink package for the last three months that I have not used yet. So your opinion is that I should go ahead and apply these links with no waiting.

        I ran Market Samurai Rank Tracker again and now the site shows at number 35 so it is starting to come back. (I hope).

          Right now I have three articles running in UAW's blog system building links. Two are resubmits and one is a new article that has been building links for about a week.
          {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3212799].message }}
          • Yep, use the profile links and try some other link types as well -- directories, social bookmarks, rss feeds, article directories, video links, etc.

            It will come back. Oh, and add the unique content too. People don't believe me, but it works. Try it.

        I checked today and my blog has not moved up yet but oddly enough it has not effected my traffic into Clickbank. Even though my blog is only getting 150 visit a day Clickbank visits have not changed I'm thinking all that extra traffic was just fluff.

            I just checked and my site is still st 46 with about 150 visitors a day. I just added some of Angela's high profile links.

            5 links
            main blog
            first page

            5 links
            main blog
            second page

            Let it ride a few days and then I will add a few more. I do add article links every day through UAW. (Unique Article Wizard)

              Build some links to your inner pages. What percentage of your links go to your homepage? I have literally brought sites back to life by just adding some links to other pages than my home page.

              It's an obvious link building give-away to have 100% links pointing to your home page, particularly if you have lots of inner pages.

    I think there are others who are running similar blogs like yours.. but the difference is that the other bloggers have optimized their blogs with respect to the keyword by which your blog was at the top.. The other blogs might have more back links than yours, had the key words in their title, meta tag and body.. I suggest you should submit your blog to some blog directories to establish some back links and add the key word in the title and body of your blog. Google will again rank your blog at the first page.. Try it and you will see the difference yourself
