Life changing. Career advice is Needed!

Hello Everybody,

I am new here. My name is Emily, living in Canton (Guangzhou), China. Recently I going to change my life and am recommended here to find some good ideas.

I am managing a couple of Chinese ecommerce websites in China. Daily customer services have taken up most of my time. My health is getting worse. Outdoor activities is very important to me but it's a luxury to me. Time is quite limited.

That's why I am going to give up those Chinese ecommerce websites and to look for a new lifestyle. "Are there any chances for me to provide services or products to oversea clients?" I asked myself.

Here are my interests and abilities:
- Love to go outdoor
- Used to be a physics teacher in a middle school for 5 years
- Love photographing
- Love to do researching
- Good understanding to local real estate market
- Good understanding to local stock market
- Just began to learn French :-)

What I am not going to do and weaknesses
- Stay at home all day long again
- I don't know how to build websites nor do any technical stuff
- My English is basic though I've learned English for over 10 years. I won't be a good writer. But I can read and speak. (This post is written with other's help)

The first idea is to sell products internationally. However, that will make no change to my lifestyle. And I am not good at communicating with factories and wholesalers.

The second idea is to sell photos. This idea seems great to me. I haven't found a good way to do this yet. Will anybody need live photos in my city?

The third idea is to find a ordanary local job. This will be the last choice.

You ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Emily

If you want to sell photos, then start taking high quality shots and put them on microstock sites. A lot of companies look for pictures that they can use for products or to put on their website.

Some microstock sites I recommend are:

    1) Dreamstime
    2) Fotolia
    3) Shutterstock
    4) Crestock

As a career coach, I understand your concerns and think that if you can take beautiful photographs and enjoy being outdoors you could without any technical knowledge build a great website that would bring you an income.

There is a great deal of interest in anything to do with China these days, so why not prepare a 'Visit Canton' website.

My Careers website is built with tools that allow you to do what you do best, without having to worry about the technical stuff.

  • Hi Emily! You can read my sig below to learn about what I did more than 5 years ago to build an
outsourcing firm from scratch with my own time and hard work: Without a website. Without a
business email. Without an office. Only our house with a couple of computers and residential DSL
connection. 4 of us, including myself, my wife and 2 college buddies. No Internet marketing and
search engine optimization knowledge. All while totally blind...

You can: Go to universities there. Talk to organizations under departments like visual arts,
Information Technology, software programming, Web development, English communications and
English journalism. Ask them if they have student members looking for jobs. Look around for
someone with substantial experience and knowledge in completing tasks needed by a lot of
corporations for their product development and online marketing campaigns. Offer something this
person needs in exchange for training materials and a few hours for training qualified applicants
as soon as you land your first few clients.

Then: Contact international corporations and global businesses. Offer services which can be
properly completed by interested applicants. Hire them initially as your subcontractors, not
employees, because most corporations and businesses would most likely start out with a
subcontract between you and them. An important thing to remember is to formulate business
workflow processes and monitoring systems to constantly observe and improve your processes
to grow your business up to a point where you're running it from the top down, not the other
way around. Keep in mind: PPT - People \ Process \ Technology. If something isn't working, look
at your PPTs. There may be something wrong with the people you work with, the processes you
implement or the technology you use.
