I have a decent opt-in mailing list of 38,000 members in the Bodybuilding/Fitness Niche

I have normally just been sending an affiliate link to a supplement website to average success, I average about $382.63 in commissions per message. Which is not bad, but I can only send a message every 60 days.

I feel like I am leaving a lot of money on the table here.
What do you guys think is the best converting offer I could send out to them? Some other methods or techniques I'm not thinking of.

I had one idea that was kind of black hat:
To set up one of those fake video websites where the video starts to play but then a CPA ad pops up and says you can't view the rest of the video until they complete the survey.

I feel that this may be more successful because I can send the message from an authority standpoint and they do not have to actually take out their credit cards and buy anything to convert the offer. Anyone have any companies they recommend for this kind of offer?

I would make the movie a popular bodybuilding documentary or something...

If you're allowed, send them to your own squeeze page. Put together a short free report about fitness with some good tips in it. Give that away in exchange for their name & email and the right to contact them from time to time. Use Aweber or something similar to build your list.

Now instead of one contact every 60 days, you have them all to yourself. You won't be making a few hundred dollars every 60 days.... you'll make even more because you can email them as often as you like. Of course, only a percentage will sign up to your list, but they'll be all yours from then on.

You could even include a one-time offer as they're signing up to your list and probably earn a few bucks as you're building your list.

The point is to think about this long-term, not just how much you can earn from a once-every-60-days email blast.

Why can't you email them more than once every 2 months?

The obvious way to improve your profit is by increasing your emails, so look for a way to do that.

    Forget about the BH stuff.

And forget about "milking 'em harder."

Instead, put your focus on what your subscribers want. What are their problems? What kind of solutions do they need?

You can survey them. You can start running test mailings to see what types of offers they respond to best. You can, as John mentioned, offer them free reports to build your own list -- and if you give them a choice of multiple reports, then you'll have a segmented list and a good idea of what your subscribers want.

Point is, stop thinking of ways you can trick 'em. Instead, think of ways you can help them.

    Cheers,
    Becky

And with those 2 short sentences, Becky shines a light on what's ultimately wrong with so many people trying to sell in this niche. Why do so many people try to shortcut this or make it harder than it has to be? I'll never really get that. Just try to GENUINELY help people. Will some of them take advantage of you? Of course. So what? The vast majority will remember you and a lot of them will become loyal customers.

      FTW.

Do I understand this correctly? You're making $382.63 every 60 days on a list of 38,000? Looks to me that list is untargeted.

You do seem to be underachieving on that list given its size. Have you segmented it from prospects to buyers? You would need to market differently based on that. Simply ask your list what they want from their health/fitness aspirations. Send out a survey and offer a free pdf report to those who complete it. Then give em what they want. You get rich by giving people what they want. Simple as that.

Exactly, either this list is untargeted, or you're doing something dreadfully wrong. On a list of this size, you should be making at least several thousand dollars per month (conservatively). Are you only mailing out ONE offer to them every 60 days?

If you "commandeered" this list as you've described, I feel like your best bet is to send out an email directing them to your squeeze page, so that you can have them opt in to your list and be able to market to them more frequently than just once every 60 days.

And you feel a whole lot better about your business when it's about helping people too!

Like Zeus said, sounds like you should send an offer to the current list to try to get them to opt-in to your "new" list. This list will now be responsive to you and you can start to market to them whenever you want.

How do you feel about making a facebook page rather than an e-mail list.
Facebook pages still have direct messaging capability, correct?

Are you spamming then filtering the people into a list ?

If you have a list of 75k, you should know what to do with it.

I'm not sure if a facebook page would work the same.... actually I'm not even sure how you would directly message people over there as I have never done that.

What I'm thinking is that you make a report, an ebook, or maybe get some software that would interest these fitness people - something that the people on the current list would find valuable...

Then email them and say "Hey if you want this really valuable thing, then go sign up over here..." and send them to sign up for your new list where you can mail them more than every 60 days.

Of course, it helps if you have a plan as to how to market to them going forward, and it really helps if you formulate the plan with the thought of helping them and providing value instead of just thinking how you can make a lot of money from them. The money will follow if you give them what they want.

My math says you are making $.01 off of each person. I agree with the poster that said offer them something they want. You don't need to "milk" them, just offer them something that would benefit them and that you would profit from.

In your link to a supplement site, are you selling them on supplementation, or a specific product? Research the products available and SELL them on a great product, your conversion may go up.

Also, check the affiliate networks for informational products that will benefit this niche, like e-books on how to target a muscle group or something, I'm sure a little research would turn up a ton of these, then presell the product in your e-mail and include your affiliate link, you will probably see a higher conversion and a higher $/sale rate.

Try creating your own product in this market, and promoting it through this list.

And yes, get them as your own mailing list through a squeeze page, that way you can market to them with THIS KILLER STRATEGY!

Offer them information only for a few e-mails, quality information that will benefit them, and don't sell them anything. Build rapport by telling them about things you experience that you know they experience. Then after a few of those e-mails, offer a solution. This way you don't come off as a high pressure, used car salesman always trying to sell them something, but their friend who wants to help. Be their friend, and more of them will want to buy from you.

I don't understand you say it is your mailing list but that you can only send a message every 60 days, then other people are telling you to send them to a squeeze page?

    Am I missing something?

This is probably one of those lists that is owned by someone else and you get to mail to the other members as long as you agree to receive emails yourself. They're usually junk, but I guess some offers might eek out a few sales. A lot of those deals limit how often you can send out to the other members.

No, it was a collection of multiple opt-in lists that I comandeered by certain tactics at the owners permission.

What I have been doing is sending a general discount code link every 2 months. The link has a 2 month cookie in it. Most of the sales I get were repeat sales from people who had already purchased from the site.My message may or may not have influenced them to purchase.

The every 60 day limit was self-imposed, I didn't want to be too much of a nuisance.

You think I could be more successful promoting individual products, more frequently?

It's probably spam, technically. You didn't get the members' permission for YOU to email them, the way it sounds. If they signed up to get emails from someone else, that privilege does not transfer to you necessarily. If you buy an entire business and the people on the list are signed up to receive emails from the business, then you're ok. But otherwise you're wide open to legitimate spam complaints shutting you down. I don't think I'd send them emails very often, either.

Your best bet is to immediately get as many of them onto your own real opt-in list. Offer them something valuable for free as an enticement, send them to a squeeze page to sign up and download it, and then you'll be golden. You'll lose a lot of the 38,000, but if you were only making a few hundred dollars every 2 months off of them anyway, that's no big deal. You can probably triple those earnings every month with even just 1,000 people on your new list. Send offers fairly often... maybe every 3-4 days. But you also need to work to build trust with them by not always sending sales pitches. Work in good free info and downloads too. That's how you work a list for the long run.

you shouldn't consider the people on your list "cows to be milked". rather think of them as customers that need your product, service, information or whatever you can offer them.

Use one of your 60 day emails to do what Becky said above - and get those folks sign up on a list where you haven't made promises about limiting what they receive and how often.
