How to best use limited time resources?

I'm faced with a challenge - I have a very busy schedule. Too busy.

I'm working 50 hours / week at my day job, my wife works evenings at her business, and we have a two-year-old. I'm also going to college online, which takes about 10 hours per week.

I have about 2 hours every night to devote to IM, and an 8-hour block on the weekends. I'm trying to figure out the best way to use this time, and I just feel like I'm spinning my wheels a little bit.

I do backlinking daily, but I probably get about 3 dofollow links / day. Maybe I'm being too picky, but I try to get a couple of blog comments, a forum profile or two, and then look for authority sites and send emails to their admins trying to get links. It works, but it's slow.

I need to find a way to either speed up the process of backlinking, or hire someone else to do it. I have considered using an employee from my wife's business for this purpose - she's $7 / hour, and I could probably afford to pay her for 5 hours hours per week on IM stuff. The thing is, I don't know how to teach her to be efficient while linking, and I feel like I'd be throwing money away.

Are there resources out there that I'm missing on streamlining the basic processes of SEO?

  • Are you making money from the leads you get now? Do you have metrics to compare to?

Do those things first and then you can figure out if $7 an hour will be worth it.

I'm still seeing what works. I have a small network of authority sites - a blog-style review site, a forum, and a wallpapers site. The review site has a mix of affiliate links that I've had some limited success at, while the wallpapers site and the forum use Adsense. They would be doing great, based on my metrics so far, but don't have the traffic yet to bring in real money.

Finally, I've got an Amazon affiliate site that's rather thin at the moment, but is actually profitable and will be better once it hits the SEO threshold for page one in Google.

I'm not concerned about an employee being profitable just yet - I'm willing to be out $35 per week to build my little empire. I just don't want to pay for nothing, I want to be able to train her to be efficient.

You can also hire people from outsourcing sites like oDesk or even fiverr. You don't have to train them, as they already know how to do it. They might even be cheaper than $7/hr and can get more done in an hour (because it's what they do for a living).

I need to know how to do it too, though. While I have enough income diverted to IM right now to have some help, that won't always be the case, and I don't want to be completely dependent upon outsiders doing key parts. I feel like I have to understand the business model before I can farm it out to free up my own time.

Hi I had the same issue at one time but I remember someone sharing with me that if I split up my time into thirds I could get more done. here's what I mean, in order tho get where you want to go on line you need to do the follow three things:

    1. Research and ID what tools and materials you need
    2. Get the tools and learn how to use them and then you've got to
    3. Practice what you learned and get something created be it a blog, website or product.

Once I really took that divide my time up into thirds, and it was tough because I wanted to do it all at first. But once I did that I found I became more relaxed about what I was doing and finally I began to see results. Funny thing is my wife didn't see what I was trying to do at first. But eventually as it all started coming together she gradually realized OK he actually has a plan and is going some where with all of this.

I remember explaining to her several times that it was like I was trying to build a car but first I had to learn what parts comprised the car and how to build each part from scratch. And man it was tough, today I can do things online I had no idea how to do some time back. Best part is that I've even made a few bucks and planning on making more. Hope that helps you.

Since you have to work 50hrs on your job, then you need to outsource. You do not have enough time to do the work as you should. Also, i feel that rather than spend more time training someone to do the duties why don't you get someone from maybe fiverr or elsewhere that already know how to do these things. It will not necessarily cost you more, might even be cheaper.

Finally i took note of your backlinking techniques for free. Thanks for that.

    Outsource, outsource, outsource.

Try oDesk for cheap employees. But you may not have success at first as you need to train them and ensure they are completing work that is actually worth it to your businesses.

SEO is a time-consuming task and 3 backlinks is not a hell of a lot, expecially if you are expecting to make a decent living from this.

You will need to target BUYER KEYWORDS.

Go out now and research higher traffic buyer keywords like:

    "Buy product XYZ online"

    "Product XYZ price"

    "Product XYZ download"

    etc.

Attract the traffic that has their credit cards out, not the freebie seekers.

This will require more SEO power as these keywords are filled with people who are already making money, you just need to beat their sites and make their money

As you already know how to make backlinks, hire a cheap oDesk worker and EXPLAIN EVERY LITTLE PAINFUL DETAIL to them. Watch closely what they do, if they mess up, find a new one.

Once you get some success on your little keyword challenge, you will have more trust in the system and you may be able to afford more oDesk workers to write content for 5 more websites/webpages for you and upscale your SEO to really take advantage.

Hope this saves you some time and headache! I wish someone told me this when I was in your positition.

    Cheers,
    Dave
