Basic Checklist Things I Should Do With Each Post?

I just started a new blog site, my first actually, and I was wondering what sorts of standard things that I should be doing each time I make a new post to optimize them.

I'm talking more off site, because I have an SEO plugin which I fill in description, keyword, title tags for on site SEO, so I figured I'm covered on that end.

But as far as promotion goes to make sure people see when I make a new post and all that, I'd love some tips. Thanks gang!

I think Darren Rowse at Problogger published an eBook product with a checklist included which was literally called the Blogger's Scorecard or something like that where it was a scorecard that you would check each post by before you published it. Might wanna look into that.

Make sure you have a comprehensive list of ping sites installed on your blog as Wordpress pings these after every new post or update.

Submit your RSS feed to the major RSS sites.

Both of these are one time only but should be done early on. Probably the only other major thing to do each time you post is to Bookmark the post at some of the major social bookmark sites.

Thanks I appreciate this info. I'll have to look into getting the ping sites installed, is there a plugin for that or something? I suppose I could just use pingler or something manually each time I post but I'm sure there's an automated way to do that.

I also didn't know I could submit my RSS feed to RSS sites, I'll have to look into that as I'm not exactly sure how that works.

Ther is a spot in your WP dashboard under the settings tab, where it says writing. You paste your list of ping services in there or leave it with the default which is pingomatic.

When you make a post, your blog pings automatically.

There are programs which can help you submit your RSS feeds to feed aggregator sites. Or you can do that manually.

some things to consider with on page seo to help your site rank higher:

i personally use platinum seo. i will put the home page settings as follows:
    keyword in the title twice
    keyword in the description twice
keyword and variations in the keywords

    other tips:
keyword in the h1, h2 and h3 tags
keyword in the first paragraph at the beggining and end
keyword in the last paragraph at least once
anchor text keyword pointing to an authority domain on the subject. for example, i build a lot of real estate sites. if my keyword was homes in nyc, i would do this:
<a href="http://realtor.com">homes in nyc</a> somewhere in the post.
anchor text keyword at least once linking to an inner page

this will all help you rank better for your keyword in the long run

    good luck to you.

I make sure to add an image to each post and put your keyword as the alt tag. This alone will get you a decent amount of traffic over time.

Great info. I have always added pictures but never thought that adding the alt tag to the picture was that important I guess I have learned something awesome from you so thank you.
