Default One Way To Make A *KILLING* Running A ClickBank Affiliate Review Website

Believe it or not, what you're about to read has generated
in excess of US$55,000 in *NET* ClickBank commissions over
the course of the past 6 1/2 months.

I'll be honest - I'm as dumbfounded by this as anyone else
might be considering this entire side project was nearly
abandoned more than once.

You know how it goes... you come up with what sounds like a
good idea, you get that rush of excitement, but there are
10,000 other good opportunities to pursue, and the idea is
forgotten. I've got to give a lot of credit to Julie, one of my
roommates, who really took a leadership role in making
this happen. (Thanks J!)

An obvious question before we get started... why reveal this
system to others? Must be that it's not working as well
anymore or something like that, right?

Wrong.

My roommates and I have been blessed in so many ways.
Despite all the tension and fighting and other crap that goes
along with being in business with the people you live with, we've
had a very good year. This is our way of saying "thank you" to
the Warrior Forum in general, and in particular, to all of our
WSO customers... far too many to name... THANK YOU!

We often test very aggressive WSO sales tactics that can range
from the obscenely crazy (showing a video of a decapitated
chipmunk being eaten by ants) all the way to the take-it-or-
leave-it bluntness that can turn so many people off and make
them never want to do business with us. We've done it all and
learned a lot. This is our way of giving back in a MAJOR way.

Let's get started...

What makes a good ClickBank review site? There are a lot
of variables and factors, but three critical elements are:

1) Targeted Traffic
2) Credibly Objective Reviews
3) Getting The Affiliate Link Click Through

Here's what you'll need to do this (in no particular order):

1) Your own domain name.
2) Your own hosting account.
3) Screen capture software.
4) Word processor program.
5) ClickBank affiliate account.
6) Startup capital of $500.
7) Intermediate HTML skills.
8) Targeted traffic (free/paid).

Step 1:

Pick at least 5 products from the ClickBank marketplace that
are extremely popular. You can do this with less popular items
too, but we like to focus on stuff that is selling like hotcakes.

Step 2:

Using your screen capture software, record yourself visiting
the sales page for the first product. It helps if you script a
brief "game plan" of what you're going to say and how you're
going to present the sales page and product. Try and keep it
relatively short (under 2 minutes). With the screen capture
software still running, narrate out loud as you purchase the
product itself. Yes, you're actually buying the product. Do not
pause the camera at any time. In post-production you will be
able to "blur" your payment details from view. It's critical that
the viewer really see that you're buying the product.

Step 3:

When you arrive at the product download page, show the
viewer how to download the product. Explain that they'll see
a charge on their PayPal and/or credit card statement from
ClickBank, and that they have a 60 day money back guarantee.

Step 4:

In the case of eBooks, open the eBook while the camera is still
recording. Hit the "Page Down" key a few times to briefly flash
some of the contents of the eBook while explaining to the viewer
that the video will be paused while you review the eBook itself.

With software, install and load the software. Make sure it's very
clear that you actually own the software and have just installed
it on your computer.

Note: Pause the screen capture software. You will then spend
about 20 to 30 minutes checking out the eBook/software. Try and
find some interesting information that correlates with a benefit,
and jot down the page number it's on (in the case of an eBook).
For software, once you see how it works, startup the screen
capture program and show it in action, or show the results of
something you created with the software. This is pure gold...

Step 5:

Restart the screen capture program, but this time you'll be on
your word processor. While the camera was paused, you typed up
a few quick bullet points that include revealing what pages within
the eBook mention interesting benefit driven information. You
can also simply talk about the different chapters, and what you
thought of each one. Don't make this more than 2 minutes.

For software related products, see the last part of Step 4 above.

Step 6:

With the screen capture program still running, go back to the sales
page for the product. This is important... in about 1 minute or less,
assuming the product is one you'd highly recommend, forcefully give
the product a very strong recommendation. Remind the viewer that
there's no risk, and encourage them to purchase the product.

Step 7:

End the screen capture video with you still on the sales page. Go
and blur your payment details, and be sure to obscure the product
download page URL if it's visible (oops - don't forget this! LOL)

Step 8:

Compile the finished screen capture presentation so that at
the end it automatically jumps to the sales page for the sales
page of the product you just purchased and talked about via
your ClickBank affiliate link. This is where the magic happens.
Your viewer will now be right on the product sales page. Nothing
to click - it was an automatic redirect via your ClickBank
affiliate link...

Step 9:

Upload the finished video to your hosting account. Using your
intermediate HTML skills, create a suitable landing page for the
particular product that's being talked about in the video. Make
sure that the video auto-plays when the page loads. This is
very important - capture the viewers interest immediately.

Step 10:

Start writing as many articles as you can and submit them
to article directories. Your resource box should include your
domain name and the specific web page of a product that
you are reviewing that's related to the article the resource box
is associated with. You can also link to a product category page
that includes more than one review page to choose from once
you've built this up over time. You can also pay for traffic, using
the product you're reviewing as one of the primary [keywords].
(I'd recommend using [exact match] via Adwords if you're going
to buy traffic this way.)

---

Bare in mind the $500 in startup capital assumes you're buying
between 5 to 10 products that might range in price from $50 to
$100 dollars each. It's not an exact number. Since paying for
traffic is optional, no additional funds are allocated for that in
the startup capital costs. It's assumed you have a domain name,
hosting, screen capture software, and a word processor. Getting
a ClickBank account is free. When we finally started doing this,
we spent close to $2,000 snapping up lots of hot products - but
in retrospect, we could have just as well started with 5 products.

---

Disclaimer:

Your results may vary, obviously. I've included how much we've
generated as a way of showing that some really useful money can
come from this - please don't interpret it as a guarantee that you
will make $55,000+ in 6 months. Fair enough? LOL Finally, there
are likely a few stray typos in the above post. This post and thread
aren't intended to be an overly exhaustive guide to doing this, but
rather a basic blueprint that intermediate to advanced webmasters
can easily pick up and run with.

---

So there you have it. This is one way (certainly not the only way,
or even presumably the best way) to make a *KILLING* running a
ClickBank affiliate review website.

Great post. Here's my only question...

How do your conversions differ from just writing a report-style review of the product without purchasing it?

Have you tested?

It's beyond the scope of this post to delve too deeply into
specific metrics, but when we compare the results of this type
of video review site that includes the purchase of the product
against more traditional review sites of ours like Red Gravity,
there is a measurable improvement in conversions.

Thanks Nathan - this is a very creative way to introduce prospects to affiliate offers. It makes a lot of sense why it would result in higher conversion rates.
Very smart :-)

Bookmarked this page for future reference, your ideas are fantastic, wouldn't have thought to use video in that way. Goes to show what you can achieve with a little forward thinking. Thanks.

I have a question!

When you are doing this, doesnt the customer see you go to the product site? If so, how do you keep the viewer from opening another browser and going to the product page instead of going to it hrough your link?

I promote a great product for this type of marketing, but I dont know how to keep people from going directly to the product site instead of going to the site via my link.

Thanks

You blur the URL or don't even include that in the screen capture as you are filming. Next you could offer an exclusive bonus if they purchase through your link. You could even show them to check the bottom of the ClickBank order page to ensure your affiliate link is there to get your bonus offer.

Right, but take membership type of sites for example. Even though the address is blurred, you still see the name of the site in the graphics...right?

Am I thinking to hard?

We're doing this strictly as a ClickBank affiliate. This link
will quickly bring you up to speed regarding the ClickBank
affiliate ecosystem (including the computation of fees):

Affiliate Program: FAQ - ClickBank

This will quickly make more sense once you learn a little bit
more about how ClickBank operates.

Is it against the TOS of clickbank to buy thru your own affiliate link?
If not then it is possible to cut down on the $500 startup capital

We didn't go that route. We're product vendors too (see sig)
and while *I* personally don't care if people buy our stuff using
their own affiliate link, a LOT of vendors DO care. They view
it as commission theft. I'm not one to put too much stock in
nebulous concepts such as "karma" -- but Julie was adamant
that we "do the right thing" and just pay retail price.

One thing that new affiliates should keep in mind is the Clickbank
Customer Distribution Requirement: Accounting - ClickBank

But yes, you're right -- an affiliate could also simply buy the items
through their own affiliate link if they want. I didn't want to put
too much of an emphasis on that because (1) we didn't go that
route as I just mentioned and (2) it's offensive to a lot of vendors
for a variety of reasons that I can appreciate.

Awesome post and excellent method.

I think you have hit the nail on the head with the method, and alot of poeple overlook that consumers are still sometimes wary about purchasing products online and as this method addresses that I can well see how it would work!

This could easily of been a nice little WSO so thank you for sharing the info!

All the best

I'm not sure of step 8. How do I do automatic redirect once the video ends?

I'd highly encourage you to do it too. Don't overlook Step 3,
especially the part about showing the user how to download
and access the product. From an affiliate perspective, the last
thing we want is for the sale to be lost to a refund because the
customer was clueless about how to unzip a file or about how
to actually download the product to their computer, etc. More
often than not vendors make an effort to explain all this on the
download page, but it's worth re-emphasizing in the video.

Here's the critical psychological reason that I've hypothesized
this works as well as it does. People are more comfortable with
making the purchase if they know what happens after they enter
their payment information and click "submit". And let's be honest,
sales pages can be EXTREMELY aggressive. So much so, that it
is easy to understand why someone might be a little bit uneasy
with following through with the transaction -- regardless of all
the talk about 60 day money back guarantees and testimonials
that claim the product is amazing (or whatever). Giving them a
sneak peak of what's on the other side removes a great deal of
that perceived uncertainty.

I'm fully expecting that most affiliate review sites will slowly
adopt this strategy in the year ahead. It's the future.

First, pick up a free trial of an excellent piece of software
called Camtasia Studio. This is what I'd recommend doing the
screen capture itself with. Then, watch this fantastic tutorial
(below) that is provided by the people who make the software.
It explains how to accomplish the automatic redirect that I
reference in Step 8 of the instructions.

Get the free trial of the software here: Download Camtasia Studio 30-Day Trial

Watch the short video tutorial here: CS--Jump to URL

Hopefully that helps.

Nathan,

This post should be shown to every single newbie that posts, "I can't make any money". What a great post. You could easily charge mid to high $xx for this information but you didn't and I'm sure 'as your roommate thinks' good karma will follow you

Even I, as a 'full time worker & software developer after work till 3 am' start to think quiting my job and implementing this.

Thank you

Thanks for putting up all the great info. The details really make the difference.

Most review sites/pages only suggest people buy things. This shows (by example) that you actually bought it, which makes it more sincere, plus it shows you the actual product or software and what makes it so great!

Kudos!

I love it! What a great little method. For someone who is as comfortable with video as I am, this will be a great technique. I just don't know if I will be using Clickbank...

Great post Nathan!

This is actually one of my bread-n-butter techniques for using Camtasia as a marketing tool. Since that's my area of expertise, here are a few more tips along those lines in addition to your excellent advice:

1. I would submit that more research and preparation than just a brief game plan yields better results. By that I mean, take some time to put yourself in your potential customers shoes.

What problem are they looking to solve or pain to avoid in purchasing this product?

Empathize with these issues during the process and reflect them back to the viewer as being your own experience also. This goes a very long way towards establishing credibility, trust, and rapport.

2. Focus on benefits...not features. Your viewers do not care about ANY of the "features" of a product except in terms of "How will this benefit me?"

3. Make a strong Opening Statement of some kind. As Nathan mentioned, it's important to quickly draw your viewer in and grab their attention. They will decide in 7 seconds or less whether or not your video is worth watching. Do something interesting or compelling immediately and THEN move on...

4. Make sure that your audio quality doesn't suck!. You're trying to make a good impression here! Assaulting your viewers eardrums is a less than favorable way to go about this...

5. Try not to be boring! Add a little humor or passion where appropriate. Your goal here is to connect to the viewer in such a way that they are "with" you for the buying process. If you do it in an entertaining or engaging way, they will actually "see" themselves doing the same thing and make a buying decision in their own minds.

6. Close with a strong Call to Action. Before you just "jump" the viewer to your affiliate link (which is a great feature of Camtasia!), try to close with something like "How this product helped me solve my problem".

7. Keep it short. This is another reason why good planning on the front end is important. If you spend your time rambling on about unnecessary detail, your video will be longer then it needs to be and less effective than it could be. This is often the result of just "winging it".

Hit these points and you'll end up making better...more effective Camtasia videos than you probably were before.

Planning is what separates kinda crappy, marginally effective videos from Killer Camtasia marketing videos that sell more of whatever you're selling.

Hope this helps!

WOW, this technique is great Nathan. Not only for affilites, but also for publishers (like myself) to encourage their affiliates to use this technique should it apply to their product. I`m giving this a try.

This is a great point...

Take it a step further and provide your affiliates "review" guidelines that they can use as a template to do their own videos.

Or...even create some videos that they can "re-brand" with their affiliate links as the Jump To.

Provide this kind of content on your Affiliate Tools page to make it easy for them...

Very generous share Nathan.

I'd take your idea and install the video under the order
button of my own pages walking the prospect through
the whole buying process. It's super easy to do
and test as well.

Excellent post, Nathan!

Killer technique.

I have been setting up a few text only affiliate review sites lately. Using video in the way you so graciously described had never crossed my mind. Now it is time for rethinking my strategy.

Thanks a mill for the fantabulous info!
