Creating products with no experience - the dilemma

So you want to create and sell your own products because you know that's where the money and longevity for your business is...you want to be part of the club with your own sweet list of buyers.

But, besides interviewing experts for their proof, experience, and expertise, how do you go about creating a product if you yourself have minimal experience and little or no proof?

Also, should it be an unspoken rule in IM that you're only allowed to create a product if you have experience in it and know your method works?

Only one way to find out...

Seriously though, who cares if it flops. You'll get the experience and do better next time. Then you can make a WSO on how newbies can launch products...

I personally feel that if I don't have enough experience to successfully teach someone something I shouldn't be in a teacher role. Sure I could make a report on my "findings" but at the end of the day if I don't have enough experience with those findings what exactly am I going to report on?

In my mind, for me to impart knowledge on someone else I need to have enough experience to fully grasp that knowledge. If you don't have any experience, what kind of product are you trying to create?

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Products are not limited to teaching new methods of making money, you know. There are millions of niches out there to create products in.

I definitely understand where you are coming from Tina, but to me it would seem beneficial that you have more than minimal experience in whatever the niche is that you are looking to create a product in.

With a bit of research, you'll be able to gather enough information to be able to put together a reasonable product, even if it is based on the experiences of others.

After you've done the first one, you'll find that you'll continue to improve your presentation.

I'd suggest that, unless you have a compelling niche which you really must enter, you focus upon a niche which interests you, even if you aren't currently an expert.

When you are considering possible products, start with a broader market and break it down into niches that you can give detailed attention to. For instance, Golf is a broad subject, capable of providing many different niches that could be the subject of a brief, yet detailed report, such as Golf Clubs, Putting, Drivers, Golf Swing, and more.

By remaining within the broader market, you have a ready audience for each report that you produce - those who've expressed interest in your earlier reports. You can also bundle 5-6 reports to create another product as an upsell - all aimed at the same group of potential buyers.

Since joining up here just a few weeks ago, I have been brain-storming about what I could do for my very first product. After spending a considerable amount of time reading through the forums and trying to determine how I could apply my experiences to a viable product, I was even more confuzzled.

And then it hit me - the answer was right in front of me on the thread I was reading. There was a discussion taking place about a particular strategy in creating sites that are extremely ordinary yet convert well. Everyone was clamoring for a script to create this site.

Do I have experience in creating a basic site that converts really well? Not really. But I do have experience in creating scripts and that is exactly what I decided to do. I created a package that will build the exact website in question and the person buying my product doesn't have to do a thing other than drop my code on their web server and edit a single spreadsheet to include their affiliate products.

I just released my product tonight but so far I would say the experience has been amazing. Not only can I now say that I have officially produced my first product - which is exciting in its own right - but I have made a number of sales and that just adds to the excitement.

Would I have felt right about creating a report about this method? No, because I haven't used it myself to make a considerable amount of money. But I looked at it from a different perspective and felt that I was able to create a product that truly filled a need that people were looking for and was in an area that I do have a considerable amount of experience.

I think your best bet is not to try and teach someone something but instead look to help people solve a problem. Help people solve 1 real problem and as long as your solution works I don't think you need to be an expert or do anything special. Your solution will speak for itself. You can even be honest and say right in your sales pitch that your no expert just an enthusiast of the subject who studied a lot about it and this is the best solution/information you found.
