Planning My Affiliate Site

Hey, all.

I've decided to dive into starting my first affilaite site and I have a few questions. First, I know I need to buy a domain name, but who's gonna host this thing? I hear people talk a lot about Wordpress, but that seems to be mostly for blogs. I want my content to be mostly images and videos. There must be other platforms (is that thr eight word?) for hosting affiliate sites besides Wordpress, right?

Second, I'm not going to be able to produce the kind of content I want right away. Can I license images and maybe videos from someone else to get myself started until I can start producing my own stuff? I know now that I can get pre-written articles I can use, but what about images and videos?

That's actually all for now, but I'll probably have more later. Thanks, guys.

You are right. You need domain as name of your affiliate site. But you'll host in hosting company (hosting / server) for this, if you choose paid hosting, there will additional cost.

Wordpress is CMS, CMS stand for content management system. With CMS, you don't have to create your site in manual way (coding raw html, css, etc to create page).

Wordpress enable you to add video, picture, post, and audio inside your site.

With appropriate plugins, you can change your wordpress blog into forum, ecommerce, picture directory, abook directory, membership sites, affiliate review sites, landing page, etc....

Hope this clear things up. Wish you success for your new affiliate site.

Apart from Wordpress, you can also use Weebly or Blogger, these are considered to be the best sites for blogging with all the web 2.0 features in it and need not worry a thing about HTML or coding. They also get ranked easily on the Search Engines because of their High PR provided you update and post contents to your blog regularly. And as "alampintar" has said, you can convert your Wordpress blogs into a picture or video site pretty easily with Plug-ins.

Again you can have either Wordpress.com, where you can host your blog for free or install Wordpress.org on your own hosting.

No, you can NOT use WordPress.com if you are building affiliate sites. WordPress.com doesn't allow monetization on their blogs and the links will be redirected to a page on their site explaining that.

You can find thousands of videos on Youtube that you can embed on your site using the embed code. But for images, you must have the proper permissions from the artist or site if you are using 3rd party ones. Which niche are you into btw?

I have no idea about cloaked links, all I know is that they can close down your blog when they suspect you using it to make money. I use them for backlinks to my own sites, but that's all I do for it.

I like using weebly and it doesn't have to appear as a blog but as an 'ordinary' site.

The best option though is to get a domain that's optimized for your keywords, find a host that offers fantastico (or whatever it is called) for easy wordpress platform installation and then search for wordpress customization on google. There are probably more info than you can handle .

If you have a few dollars to spare, I'd recommend Bring The Fresh by Kelly Felix and Mike Long. They have an wso running where you can try it out for a buck a day. They go through the process in detail and you'll also learn how to get the site to rank.

You can license images from the stock photo sites for a small fee, but videos are a different story altogether. If what you need are simple slideshow type videos, what I'd suggest is maybe finding someone on Fiverr who could do this for you inexpensively. You could also look in the Warriors for Hire or Classifieds section here to get people to create these videos for you.

Try one.com for basic cheap hosting (not affiliated just a good budget host)
its about $15 for the first year including domain name registration. I have never seen anything cheaper. The support is first class, only downside is the hosting is a bit basic, but its fine for what you want.

I have started making a site with wordpress plugins in mind. I have some good paid wordpress plugins and some tutorial videos to get people started using wp. I am afraid that I may not have a market for this. I really don't know which keywords to use ,suggestions if you have any!. Right now I have these as my top keywords: paid wordpress plugins, wordpress plugins and best wordpress plugins. These mostly are about free plugins and paid plugins have monster sites as well as the other keywords. These are also the only keywords I have chosen because they seem to get the most traffic. I really think the plugins I have are great products for people wanting to start out as an affiliate. Have I delved into a bad market or should I keep going with my site? Gravity levels are good on most of the plugins! What should I do? Are other forms of marketing like blog posts and article marketing, ect good enough to get quality traffic?
