Can't get rid of Google Redirect Virus

I've tried combofix, hitman 35, Super Anti Spyware (free versions), have all the updated dats for MS Security Essentials, and also tried a System Restore for several different dates and it wouldn't take.

How can I get rid of this annoying virus??

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!!

Liz

    Use MalwareBytes.

Install, load latest updates, restart your computer in Safe Mode.

    Run MalwareBytes scan twice.

I know exactly how you feel. I caught the same type of virus a few weeks ago. I tried EVERYTHING I could find to get rid of the thing.

Many recommended malwarebytes and Avast boot scan. I ran those multiple times and still had the darn thing.

The onlything that worked for me was reinstalling Windows 7. Fortunately my files were saved still but I had to reinstall software programs.

All I can really say is, if all else fails, reinstall your operating system. It could save some time and money in the long run.

This page has 'remove by hand' instructions at the bottom.

Before even attempting them, you should disable system restore, and reboot into safe mode.

Also, when you get done, I highly recommend going to Symantec, and purchasing a copy of 'Norton Internet Security' (which saved me from getting infected from that crap). Yeah, it cost $90, but it's a lot better than dealing with what you're having to deal with now.

It's called a rootkit. Kaspersky released a free tool called "TDS killer" that addresses this. Once it gets added your Windows files, your AV will stop seeing it as a virus (which is what is happening).

Download TDSSKiller 2.4.1.0 Free - A tool to help you remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS - Softpedia

      Bye bye virus.

I agree with this. I was a computer tech for a while - Kasperky will get rid of it.

If, FOR SOME REASON, it doesn't, than get Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool which will find this thing, and kill it.

In some cases, it's a script - Kaspersky will target and eliminate the script.

          Thanks Guys!!

Holy cow - I think I fixed it. We'll see in the next couple of days, but it's been 5 searches without a popup, and my machine doesn't sound like a motorboat taking off to the moon. lol

Since Myles was the first poster - I followed the instructions on the brighthub website and that took care of it. (Thanks Myles). Couldn't even boot into safe mode, would just hang, so ran the rkill first then tdsskiller. It caught the Acrord32info.exe file as being corrupted. I never found that tdssserv.sys as a hidden device, but just followed thru with instructions and looks good. Ran the Spybot next.

I've never had to deal with such a relentless pain in the butt before.

  • It's best you buy a good antivirus like Kaspersky,AVG or BitDefender and ignore all these free programs like Malwarebytes etc.

I used malwarebytes for a few months, and it had one of the lowest virus detection rates I've ever seen. It failed to detect a trojan, that my AVG was able to detect and remove.

You get what you pay for.

That's one of the toughest viruses out there. Just when you thought that your AV has eliminated the virus, it comes back. Again and again.

I got that virus when I was browsing one forum and it was one tough cookie. I tried almost every possible malware removal tool. Even Kaspersky and Nod32 failed to remove it. Windows Defender was able to remove it but it keeps coming back after every reboot.

So I backed up all my files and reinstalled my operating system.
