How to change banner text in Gimp ?

Hi All :
I downloaded Gimp about an hour ago and will like to get some help. I have several banners that have text that I will like to change. How do I change text on a banner in Gimp?

I am assuming the banners are in psd format if so just visit my warrior blog and i will show you how it is done.
