Exactly. If you are already trying to rely on someone else making and designing a site for you then you are already on the wrong path.

If you want to build a website then you should know that websites are worthless without quality. If you want to learn how to build a quality website then it will take time. Shortcuts are roads to failure.

      Instead learn:
What makes for good website design.
What formats and programs will allow you to accomplish the right design.
How to design and build said site.
      How to optimize it correctly.

If you don't know those things then how in the world will you know what you are really getting when you buy an WSO or outsource to someone else?

Furthermore, don't rely on someone else's judgement. You need to know how to use your own. That takes knowledge and experience. Get to studying before you get to building or trying to make money.

Your right but, for people who are inspiring painters and others who already paint, its always good to get books on their craft... You can't paint without some sort of instruction... And a great painter would learn everything from everybody about what he does. This keeps him ahead.

    Hey Andre,

Are you in search of a WSO that teaches you to build/design a website or one that delivers a ready made website for you?

FYI: there is life outside of the WSO section, too

For building websites start learning HTML basics: W3Schools Online Web Tutorials - all free.
From the same site you can learn CSS - the basics for "design".

That's the technical part. You can build website after learning those.
For design, in the real menaing of the word... you will need some talent, too.

Absolutely, W3 is a great resource to utilize for anyone that wants to learn the necessary skills to build websites manually. If you're looking to create WordPress (or any other CMS such as Drupal, Joomla) you can still benefit greatly by learning the basics of what it takes to build a website.

However, as great as these resources are, some people just flat out don't have any interest in learning how to write code. Just like with so many other aspects of IM, sometimes it does make sense to outsource the pieces of the business that you cannot, or don't want to, do. Would it help if you knew the basics? Most definitely. Can you succeed without knowing the basics? Yes.

If you're new to building websites, try to lean some basic HTML and CSS before attempting to even use simple CMS like WordPress.

    Hey Andre!

This is my first post here - but thats irrelevent.

I'm actually a designer and I have been passionate about design sinse I was 9 years old - I'm 20 now.

The best place to look is the w3 website.

With websites all you need to know is two things: 1) HTML and 2) CSS.

HTML will handle all the content of the site as well as the findemental functions and what not.

    CSS is all about styling.

A quick google search will bring you up an unlimited number of tutorials.

My advice would be if your starting from scratch - use some beginners tutorials to get you started and practice practice practice.

When you visit websites, if you right-click (windows) and you select "View Source" - this will display all the coding for a website. Look at the coding, take bits out and put them in your own HTML page and tweak them to see what happens.

Get some code and mess about with it.

That is how I learn't how to build websites.

From there onwards, use FREE TUTORIALS all day and every day to learn anything you want to know. And be sure to stay focused on CSS because it has a wealth of benefits over HTML.

*For example - in the old days, you needed alot of images on websites to achieve certain effects. With CSS these days you can place images anywhere on a page, change the colour, style, transparancy etc. of any object - curve the edges to content boxes and so much more - all with the use of code instead of images. So your pages will load faster and run smoother.

To learn ANYTHING to do with HTML/CSS you will never have to pay a penny in your life - simply Google it.

If you want to know how to make a Navigation Menu in CSS which has "drop-down" menu features, then Google: "CSS Drop down menu tutorial" - within minutes you will be learning and practicing this new skill.

Seriously brother, you really don't need to buy any products on web design - Google and the magic word "tutorial" are all you will ever need.

If you have any more specific questions about web design once you have made a start at it - feel free to give me a message here at the forum and I'll help in any way I can. I have knowledge of HTML/CSS - but little knowledge of PHP or Java.

All the best, I wish you go luck with your ventures,
    Peace,

Wow Guys!!! You all paint out a path of doom... I am very good at building websites. I have about 20 that I have built. I am using thesis for my themes and thesis openhooks. I started back in 1999 for building websites. I used hotdog, then Frontpage, then Bluevoda - to Wordpress.

The question I was asking was what is the best WSO for building and designing websites. I am sorry guys I actually like to read WSO's they are informing and I learn from them...

I just want your opinion on what is a good WSO that deals with building and designing and optimizing websites. I would like to check them out to see if I am missing anything.

This Forum is suppose to have great IM in it. So I don't mind reading other peoples WSO's on the same topic. So please guys don't leave a post in here talking about how bad it is building a site and why I can't...

Please only answer what I am asking ONLY!!!

I AM ASKING WHAT IS THE BEST WSO FOR BUILDING & DESIGNING WEBSITES?

I know everyone is trying to help but, you will help me more in letting me know what YOU think is the best WSO or Program that talks about building, designing, and optimizing sites from A-Z from a Warrior who actually has a really good site....

The best WSO is going to be the one I will create one day ;]

In all seriousness - I wish I could help you more but the only advice I can give you is to use the Forum's search tool.

Use the Advanced options to narrow it down to WSO's only and type in some Web Design Product type keywords and see what your search finds you.

    To the OP:

If you really want to learn high quality web design quickly.....

    Head on over to: www(dot)oswd(dot)com

That is: Open Source Web Design.

They have an amazing selection of 100% free CSS-coded websites.

Download a few and explore them, play about with them in notepad and see what you can discover.

Looking at clean, professional code like this will aid your learning a lot - and also this is a great place to get templates to build on.
