I see a number of people use WordPress here. Michelle MacPhearson has a good blogpost today about her checklist for putting up new sites that some here might find useful:

    It's obliviously useful to follow an installation checklist since we might forget one or two essentials steps.

      That's great - wish I'd seen it even earlier in my learning process. I've spent a lot of time piecing things together. Thanks!

    @lior1970 "It's obliviously useful to follow ..."

    LOL, I'm sure that was a slip of the keyboard, but I find it hilarious! Similar to a dialog I had many years ago about people having the courage of their own convictions ... one response was that people need to stand on their own "too feet" !

    @helterskelter - You are welcome. Michelle is one of the people I follow and have found her advice very useful.

    Another of her posts I found useful is Steal This Niche, a series showing how she does niche research to find potentially profitable niches.

    Master Resale Rights are so versatile, and these are educational, too. All kinds of IM material. Read, sell, break up into articles, combine into bundles, and there are 250 of them, complete with MRR, here for a bargain price! I'm even throwing in the sales page. Only £37 for Warriors. http://www.250mrrproducts.com

    Its a good list, but there are a few exceptions

    adsesne - Not everyone can use adsense. My blog promotes the sale of firearms and knives. Having adsense on my blog would probably get my account banned.

    Permalinks

    In WP Settings —> Permalinks change it to Custom Structure, use /%category%/%postname%/
    I disagree with that.

    If you look at popular sites like huffingtonpost.com, they use the postdate in the url. If that permalink structure is good enough for large sites like cnn blogs, fox news blogs, huffingtonpost, its good enough for me.

    I also like having a non-repeating url, and not a -2 either.

    I also think she has a little bit of plugin overkill.

      My thoughts EXACTLY. Way too many plugins

      No-one should ever simply install plugins because they are on a list, so they must be good. Many, many plugins are huge resource hoggers and anyone should give careful consideration to their real necessity before adding them to a blog as a matter of course.
