Beware of GoDaddy hidden upsells

My credit card just got hit with a bogus product renewal charge from GoDaddy.

It was for something I would never buy and wasn't even aware of until this 'renewal' came through. Some garbage site builder.

This must have been a 'hidden' pre-checked upsell when I bought a domain.

My advice, fellow Warriors, is this: Godaddy is a very 'visually busy' site with far too much crap littered all over the place. Take your time when registering domains on there and look at everything. Make sure that pre-checked boxes for all of their rubbish are manually unchecked.

Or, do something I will do in future. Exclusively use a more professional service like Name.com

It happened to me too on one of my previous purchases. On my latest $1.49 purchase from Godaddy, I looked very carefully at the items purchased (it's towards the bottom of your checkout page) and sure enough, the hosting trial was right there, and I just needed to click 'Remove' to get rid of it.

It's not really hidden, but it can be difficult to spot if you don't scan through your whole checkout page carefully.

I hae noticed alot of domain companies doing this lately, you got to be careful or you end up with al sorts of stuff you dont want. I ended up with an awful virus scanner a few weeks ago when buying a domain.

Hi, I also found this "a website builder" while I was ordering, there is an option to remove it, even though I did, it still was hooked up.

Anyways, I went to see more, its a 5 page site builder, FREE trial. Stupid thing. I saw it is given "Auto renew" after 1 month. So I quickly took action and deleted the whole thing even before I forget so that godaddy can charge me for it.

I've got the same experience it the past. It's true, keep monitoring every details of your package you order, pay closely attention to any radio button and check boxes. Then you'll be fine.
