Only a couple of these. I have a small list where I submit regularly.

Article Karma Directory looks like they are having a little trouble..all I got was an error message at the time of this post...

Free Seo Webmaster Tools is only a PR1...that kinda surprises me.

TheArticleDirectory.org charges $5 for you to have the "privilege" to post 5 articles. Who the heck would pay for that?

    http://tinyarticle.com/ looks fairly solid...

Don't submit your article to thousands, rather select any TOP FIVE and do it manually!

I mass submit, but most of those directories will probably be gone by the end of the year. Too much spam, not worth the time to filter it all.

Indeed. Statistically, almost all of them will probably be gone well before that.

All that mass submission to hundreds of "article directories" can get one is non-context-relevant, temporary, PR-0 backlinks. In the time it takes to submit to 500 of them using software, one can get one quality, higher-PR, context-relevant backlink with an appropriate, productive blog comment that adds value to someone else's page and gives your site much more "link-juice", instead of filling the web with stuff which actually helps nobody - not even oneself to any extent worth talking about.

This is typically the activity of people who are either no longer posting here 2 years later, having dropped out of internet marketing, or are starting threads announcing that "article marketing doesn't work any more". The reality is that what they're doing isn't really article marketing at all.

        I totally agree with Alexa.

IMHO, mass article marketing played out two years ago as an effective SEO activity in and of itself.

Make article marketing part of your mix, but be selective as to which sites you use.

for me, 2 purposes for article submission:

    1. direct traffic, not many sites can provide this. you can see benefit immediately, and long term also since usually they are good sites.

    2. backlinks. most article sites give you backlinks. long term, it is helpful.
