I sometimes feel that my efforts are a bit chaotic and scattershot and that I don't really have any proper plan in some areas. I thought then that maybe it would help me - and hopefully others if I made a list of what I do to promote a new site and then I would appreciate it if others could chip in with things I have missed - and I guarantee there will be a lot of 'em ;-) Ok, so here goes. Once I create a new blog or website/page I do the following to try and drive traffic: * Ping the site * Social Bookmark - usually Digg and Stumble * Build a Squidoo lens/lenses- which link back to the site * Ditto - only with Hubpages * Write articles which point back to the site * Twitter it * Comment on other relevant blogs (although this isn't really well thought out and just sort of happens - I don't check no follow etc - which maybe I should?) * Signature in forums - although again a bit hit and miss I'm sure there are some great gaping holes there so please go ahead and point out the error of my ways ;-) All thoughts welcome. Thanks, Ali |

Great post man, I would just like to add that anyone that wants to ping their site for absolutely free (no affiliate, no sponsor) go to www.pingomatic.com, it will send your site to at least 20 different pr4 and higher websites. Best Regards, -Alex Kaplo |

I've been wondering about these automatic pinging services. If you don't have an account on the sites that get pinged (or don't tell the pinger what your sign-in stuff is), how does it add the links? Does PingOMatic have its own accounts on Digg, Stumbleupon, Technorati, etc, and adds your site to its own bookmarks?

Adding pages to your site will also give you some traffic, since Google like "living" websites with new and updated content. Your list isn't bad. You could add to this: 1. Press Releases 2. Directories All the best, Franck |

Thanks for the replies and thanks Franck for the additions - do you have a particular method for submitting to directories? Anyone, anything else? |
