Article Marketing Works!

I decided to finally buckle down and do some serious keyword searching for high hits and low competition and then I submitted 27 articles in a 4 week period to Ezine and then 5 other directories. From doing this here is what my Google Analytics looks like for that month.

So, I improved my traffic 1,563%. I'm happy with that! My goal is to have 100 hits a day as right now it's around 30.

Another cool thing that happened was that I send these books to someone I sort of know and she liked them and recommended them in her newsletter and I went from making $30 a month to so far this month I have $500 in profits with it! To me this is amazing! I don't know how many people are on her list but WOW, I sold most of those in three days! I make more if they buy from my estore then from Amazon but either way it's money in my pocket!

Now, to get busy writing more articles! Just wish I knew some more people that would recommend my books in their newsletter. I don't have an affiliate program as I have no idea how to do that with CreateSpace.

    Marsha,
That's a great start for you and I would expect that as you continue to write and submit articles your brand exposure will increase which should help sell more of your books.

Also, as you write and submit more articles you will have more people visiting your article directory profile so make sure you have links in that space leading back to your website or book sales page.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

You might also tweak your resource box to offer a more compelling call-to-action.

In doing so, you could literally increase your traffic several-fold over what you are currently getting.

Don't just say, "For more information, visit my website."

Instead give people a specific reason, related to the content of your article, to visit your website.

        Nice work!

I would definitely put your call to action as the first sentence of your resource box. That way the flow from the article to the call to action will be immediate and attention grabbing.

Always try to leave the reader wanting a little more, which of course will be clearly offered by visiting your site.

Also, have you ever thought about guest blogging? It's a fantastic way to build a relationship with blog owners who have newsletters, who might be willing to promote your stuff.

I use long resource boxes. It surrounds your link with related content. As long as you are not writing resource boxes over the article directory limit, you should be fine.

I agree with the above comment

Most of the time, you don't want your resource box too long. When I look at your resource box, I really want to skim it because it's a bunch of text for me.

One more tip for resource box is include a link with your targeted keyword in there. You submitted 25 articles to Ezine and if you have placed a link with target keyword, you would have gotten more visitors from search engines.

I am an expert... You are pushing the top end on the length for the resource box, but it is not too long.

I always recommend that you do the keyword link and the plain text version of the url, to protect yourself from those publishers who simply don't know how to work with html.

Once you add the plain text url, you will go long, so you would need to shorten.

Now, the OP is partly correct. While technically the max length of a resource box should be 500 characters, some publishers prefer us to keep resource boxes even shorter.

The resource box is a good time to exercise brevity in your words.

The main problem with your resource box is that it says a lot, without saying very much at all.

It is a hard read, which means people will quit reading it before they get to your link.

You are trying to address 3 audiences in your resource box, instead of focusing more directly.

      1. pain and devastation
      2. restore your marriage
      3. wealth, health, children, career success and overall happiness

You are bouncing around on these three topics, and yet, you have failed to put it into perspective of the benefit for the reader to visit your website.

Readers only care about WIIIFM -- What Is In It For Me?

You must answer that question through their eyes, not your own.

What you have to do is make the resource box look like a "continuation" of the article. If I just finished reading your actual article, and now I'm down to your resource box, I shouldn't know that I am now done with the article and am reading a "resource box"... it should just flow straight from article into the resource box, with a strong call to action and a link. Your resource box is pretty informative but I'm not sure how it's relating to each one of your individual articles.

You can make a resource box "template" that you use with all your articles for the same niche but it's a very good idea to at least make some type of tweaks and changes to it for each individual article, so it flows better with the rest of the article.

Remember, Ezinearticles doesn't have a heading saying "And here is the author's resource box:" before they display your resource box. If I'm an average user searching for information on the internet, chances are I know nothing about Article Marketing or Resource Boxes (in non-IM niches at least). So, to me, your resource box is just the last "paragraph" of your very informative article I'm just finishing reading... if it flows with the rest of the article, satisfies what I was looking for but makes me want more at the same time, and has an appropriate call to action with a link... you better believe I will click through on that link.

The rest is up to how your website and sales funnel is set-up.

Okay, then I need some help. How do I get them wanting more? How do I shorten this and make them HAVE to click the link?

So, say my keyword is "Christian Affair" my link should say this instead of "Godly Whispers"?

Thanks so much for the help!!!

If your target keyword for the search engines is "Christian Affair", then that should be the keyword in your link.

Then you should include your domain at the end of the resource box just as it is as plain text: http://www.godlywhispers.com/

I would need more time than I am willing to spend to create a new resource box for you that meets my standards. So I will take a pass on that.

You are actually the best person for the job anyway, because you know what your site is about and how you and your readers will benefit from people visiting your site.

Say your article was Christian Affair - 5 Tips to .... ..... ..........

Your first sentence of your resource box would be:

      5 more tips to .... ..... a "Christian Affair".

Make your concluding paragraph and last sentence in your actual article kind of lead them into your call to action (as the solution to their problem) as much as you can.

Try a combination resource box with the last sentence of your article (in bold below) leading into the resource box. Here is a very rough and quick example:

Are you still struggling to deal with the aftermath from your spouse having an affair?

    START RESOURCE BOX

You no longer have too -- Godly Whispers gives you the strength to face each new day with a renewed sense of hope eliminating the pain and devastation you now feel. The road to recovery after spousal infidelity can be difficult, but it can be achieved with our Godly Whispers Workbook and daily devotion. Come see what we are all about!

    END RESOURCE BOX

Normally I make my resource boxes a bit stronger with more call to action phrases but having looked your website over and the first few pages of your book it seems that this type may be more suited for your targeted niche audience.

Also, I'll second what Bill added about using a URL for some of your resource boxes. It protects you from those that don't know how to
work with html and from those that don't care to work with html.

Additionally, you can substitute keyword phrases you are targeting with the blue text in my example above. Although when I visited your webpage I noticed your meta tags were not being fully used so that is something you should also consider working on.

    Respectfully,

        Wow, Marsha.

What a beautiful site for a sensitive subject.

I defer to the excellent points already made here.

It has been some years since I submitted articles to ezine directories and I would bet some things have changed.

I remember having different resource boxes for different articles and for certain sites to meet their requirements.

I thought if you had to use a shorter resource, you could just hit the high points with something along the lines of:

Feeling the Pain of Betrayal? Stop the Pain Today
For your, for your Children, for your Future.
Let the Healing Begin. Visit Godly Whispers Today!

It looks as if you have the search/results criteria figured out. It seems that everyone has different criteria to get a first page ranking on google. What is your criteria? Example at least 10,000 local searches per month with less than 50,000 resulting pages. I have read lots of article marketing information, but it seems everyone has a different formula. Thanks. Al

    >>>What is your criteria?<<<

Mine is the keyword has to have at least 1,000 global monthly searches (broad) and when I check the keyword in quotes on Google with SEOquake I check to see the page ranks of all the websites on the first page. I want 0-1-2-3 and nothing higher. I LOVE mostly zeros as you can get on the first page of Google in 24 hours after going live on Ezine!!!

  • 1,000 global monthly searches broad is a very little amount to aim for. At the very least you should try to go for 720-1000 matches exact. I usually aim for 1.8-2.4k and above exact. Even then, the amount of searches doesn't always matter because the competition on the first page of analyzing can sometimes turn out to be weak.

As a very astute article marketer, there is some very good info flowing through here. Great stuff!

Article marketing is one of my main sources of traffic, and I can say, once you get it right...you can get a flood of traffic for a long time.

Try to focus more on buyer keywords or target audience. Somtime we just use any old seo keyword term. The trick is to get inside the brain of your propect or target audience. Sit there at google and pretend to be them, and ask yourself, what they are typing in the search engines. That will give you a really good head start.

    Hi Marsha.
    Really pleased for you.

you have more than enough info on your resource box so I'll say no more on that.

I thought for your subject, don't just focus on online marketing,
you could also look to offline sources of customers.
    ask yourself:
"where do people go when ---------- Happens"
...... Christian groups, churches, Councelling groups....
    wherever you can think of.

Contact them and tell them about your 'service'.

    Maybe offer a free sample?
maybe even a 'brandable' free pamphlet? (is that even a word??)
i.e: tri-fold A4 sheet with some good helpful tips. with a blank area for them to ad their company/ church /agency, stamp.

Obviously your 'call to action' and url too!

    Just a thought.
    Good luck.

Great job. It’s another proof that article marketing is very effective. I have to agree though with the long resource box entry but it works anyway so it’s fine.
