Does this list-building software exists?

I notice there are a number of list-building programs floating around. I'm looking for one to work in a specific way, and don't know if this is something that exists....maybe someone can advise me??....

Basically, I want to implement a system that allows people to sign up to start referring people to my list, after they've already been on my list for a while.

Ie: After someone has been on my list for say 2 months, and I have developed a strong relationship with them, is when I want to offer them the opportunity to sign up as an "affiliate" for my list...

...does that make sense?

It seems that the list-building programs that currently exist combine the initial list signup with the signup to be an affiliate for the list. You can't join the list and then signup later to become an affiliate...it is all combined..

The thinking is this:

First of all, after someone has been on my list for a couple of months, they have a relationship with me, and they know the value of the content I deliver through my list, so they will be more likely to want to refer people than someone who just joined.

Second, I have been pitching my products to them for a couple of months, so they are familiar with the value of the products, and what I want to do is offer a promotion where they can get my main product for free by signing up to be an "affilate," and refer X number of people to my list.

Am I making sense here????

This seems pretty straightforward to me, but seems to be a limitation of all the list-building systems I have seen so far..

Does anyone know if there is a program that does this?? Or have any other thoughts on this?

Does it make sense what I am looking for???

Thanks!!
Elliott

Elliott, you don't need a different program. Any of the ones that allow people to become affiliates will do.

All you have to do is delay telling them that the affiliate opportunity exists for the two months you want to wait. If they don't know it's there, it effectively isn't there.

If you're running your list with an autoresponder, just set the affiliate message to go out 60 days after joining the list.

In addition to what John said, if you want to track and offer commissions to the affiliates, then look into the HasOffers platform

    • Thanks guys....I'm actually not even using traditional affiliate software (maybe that's where I've been going wrong). I've been playing with things like Frank Kern's Good Karma List Machine... Didn't know a better word to use other than "affiliate"..

Anyway, sounds like maybe traditional affiliate software is the way to go?

Is there a system that allows you to incentivize affiliates based on email signups alone?

I'm looking into Has Offers right now...maybe that will do the trick..

Actually, the one I'm putting together follows Paul Myers' "Best Email Affiliate System', which relies on the Rapid Action Profits script and autoresponder service or software. Affiliates refer people to the list sign-up page, where their affiliate ID is encoded in the opt-in form.

When a mailing goes out, the affiliate ID is encoded in the links so that if someone buys via the link in the email message the affiliate gets paid according to whatever formula is set.

It's not directly paying for email sign-ups, but I can see it actually being a far better motivator.

I bought the system when it first came out, so I'm not sure what Paul is charging for it now.

  • hmm....actually...$100 a month for Has Offer isn't really justifiable based on where I am right now..

Maybe but there are also other incentives to encourage referrals. For example you could offer pay per lead not just pay per sale.
I believe there are several affiliate management programs that offer pay-per-lead. I know DAP and Post Affiliate Pro do and I'm sure there are others.

Yes, Post Affiliate Pro offers pay per lead schema. It is basic functionality of our affiliate software.
Actually PAP supports tracking of any kind of event on your website and define commission structure for any type of trackable action on your site. With Action Commissions feature you can reward your affiliates for any type of event you think is valuable for your business (e.g. signup to newsletter, visiting pricing page, sign to free membership account, etc.)
