Sales Page Not Converting

Ohhh the classic newbie question -- only I am not much of a newbie. I have a few years under my belt.

But, cocky with my marketing skills, I jumped into a rather flooded niche. The niche gets tons of traffic and I was able to get some nice adwords ads going.

I got past the google-slap and was able to run many ads and get tons of clicks.

I feel my product's sales page is equivalent to my competitors. HOwever, I've not sold many copies at all of my digital product.

What are the things I MUST be doing in a competitive niche?

Would you recommend I have an opt-in box where I trade some free info in exchange for an email?.. and then market to them that way?

That could possibly be the best thing to do. Since most people dont open their wallets until he 7th email.

Is What you are making right now, covering your ads cost?

If you're in a competitive niche (and most of them are these days) you must meet everything ALL of your top competitors provide and add more. More benefits, easier to follow plans, better money being made, better results being achieved. Bigger, better, easier, quicker, shinier, more exclusive. Anything to set yourself above the crowd.

BTW, you might want to fix your signature.

I do remember when you were having problems with your adwords account and your settings, why not run an affiliate program and save your adwords money and invest it into a decent copywriter and stuff that pulls higher conversions? That is my advice for you, since you spend money with adwords and don't make much sales, this means that you need to ramp up the conversions, the only way to profit.

What is the best way to announce an affiliate program?

I was thinking that too.. or considering doing some long tail stuff.

Strange you remember me. Good memory.

Do you guys see my picture? I can't get my profile pic to work

Yeah, I can see your picture. Check the pixel limits and file size for your profile picture. 150x150 and no more than 100K.

This may win some votes and might not win some votes, having your product on clickbank is the answer in my opinion, of course there are those that love to refund, but imagine having 100 affiliates or more that can sell at least 1 product or more a day for you, and you did nothing for those days.

You could announce your affiliate program by:

#1 having it in your WF signature
#2 List your affiliate program in www.associatesprogram.com

        There you go.

        1. Improve your sales copy so it converts better.

        2. Consider having multiple sales pages niched to each keyword group.

        3. Offer some kind of free information in exchange for email addresses for people who exit your sales page and follow up with them by email.

        4. Create an immediate back end upsell for your front end product (that in itself may make your project profitable if you're currently close to break even).

        5. Work out a whole series up upsells, cross sells etc for people who buy your product from you.

        6. Consider other forms of marketing like article marketing, SEO, affiliate marketing etc.

In particular see if there are plum keywords that are costing you too much to bid for to make a profit that don't have a whole lot of competition in the search engines.

You can often reach the top rankings in Google search by optimizing specific pages for these search terms with some intelligent SEO.

          Thanks Andrew

Those are exactly my same thoughts.

But seeing these other sites (in this niche) with Google Adwords Ads has made me to believe that they HAVE to be profitting (although possibly not much) from running the adwords ads alone.

I realize that the bulk of their revenue may come from elsewhere.....

But the HAVE to be profiting from those adwords ads, otherwise they'd pull them right?

In general, yes... but don't bank on it. There are plenty of people without a clue throwing a LOT of money chasing a dream.

Have you bought from these people? Do you know what their backend looks like? They might be losing money on the front end product and making it all on the backend.

Yes I thought of that too... that they could be making it on the back end.

But just was hoping it wasn't that way..

And I am pretty sure its not that way because theyve not been promoting anything to me (I have purchased from them).

They do, however, charge $5 more.

Maybe its just slower money than I am used to... and maybe my ads have to settle a bit..

              Flooded niche..

                Kyle is spot on.

There are many VERY savvy marketers who are perfectly happy to break even or even lose money on front end sales then make their profits on back-end sales.

When you're in a competitive niche your strategy, your sales copy and everything you do become much more important.

They have to be good just for you to stay afloat.

Another thing you can consider...can you create a product in a sub niche of your major niche that looks lucrative but isn't being serviced effectively.

In other words are there smaller niches in your "flooded niche" where you can dominate with a product no one has created yet.

Often micro niching like this can give you instant access to affiliates (other big players in your niche are more likely to promote your product because it is not seen as direct competition.)

It's also far easier to be a big fish in a small pond.

Dominate one tiny sub niche then move on to another related sub niche and so on until you have some significant market share.

In every "flooded niche" there are always tiny islands that remain almost untouched just waiting for you.

                Kindest regards,

                  Hi,

From my own experience I'd suggest really stop the AdWords campaign and try to get traffic to your website with other means -- that may indeed be the make or break factor in your niche.

Find a good forum where potential buyers from that niche hang out, and start living in that forum. Talk to them, give advice, and if you're persistent, you'll see the rewards.

I've had a few AdWords failures and finally got that it's not that easy as it may seem.

The most important factor here might be the personal contact.

Running adwords on a page/campaign that doesn't convert is just wasting that money away, conversion first , then traffic. My advice as stated before is to outsource the ramping up of the page/conversion and possibly the product, then focus on affiliate marketing, google will continue to take his money and that just down right sucks.

                    Cheers,

                    • You need to sit down and do some math... Figure out the maximum CPC you can afford to break even. Then, do whatever you can to raise that number. Whether it is increase the conversion rate of your copy, decrease your CPC costs by optimizing your page better, or adding more of a backend so you can create additional profits that way, it will help.

Then, and only then, get back into Adwords. Use other sources of free traffic for awhile... You could even contact some of your competitors, and offer to do a JV or two with them. They promote your product to their list for some profit, and you promote their products to your buyers for a backend profit of your own.

                      There are always ways, grasshopper.
