Tips on Selling a Facebook App?

My husband was recently contacted about a Facebook application he had made for a contest over a year ago. The man wants to purchase the URL of the Facebook application. Has anyone ever done this? Basically, we are assuming we should just delete my husband's app to free up the URL so the guy can register his app with it.

We are unsure how to accept payment. Would PayPal be acceptable for this sort of thing, or should we use an escrow service? Since there's no actual product switching hands, we're worried about seller protection.

    Don't delete the app.

Here's what I do (if they just want the app URL):

Escrow won't really protect anyone when buying a Facebook app, you can quite easily get screwed.

Ask him/her to pay beforehand. Once you've received the payment switch the developer on the app , it's then in the buyer's control and they can do as they wish with it.

There's no real safe way to buy/sell FB apps unless you go down the contract route, so it's best to get payment first.

  • Escrow service would be fine with 3rd party arbitration if necessary. (Is it any significant amount of cash?)

Just be quite clear what the terms are.

Agree with these comments. It's essential to have everything set on the contract to ensure you're protection in selling this program.

Thanks everyone. The buyer has drawn up a contract, which my husband has agreed to. My husband just has to sign and fax it to the buyer tomorrow, and he will pay. Once he pays, my husband plans to add the buyer as a developer on the app and then remove himself.
