Promoting New Content I add to Blog

After you write good material for your site (say 500 words of good seo friendly original relevant content) how do you promote that little write-up you just did?
Things I have been doing:
-social book marking with social marker
- tweaking the write up a bit to enable me to submit it to the article submission directories with backlink to my site.

Anyone have any other ideas for promoting each new piece of content I add to my site?

    Go social with it. Commenting on other blogs in your niche and networking with people in your niche on sites like Twitter can drive a good amount of targeted traffic to your blog.

    Just don't get spammy with things. Take some time to interact with people in your niche and you'll find that not only will they end up visiting your blog, but a lot of times you'll find them sharing your content with their friends/followers/blog readers.
