Conversion rate sucks!

Hi all

As some of you know I set up a few Amazon review sites around 3 weeks ago. Well within 6 days, two of these sites had made a sale which made me beam with joy.

Two weeks later and after a LOT of work and huge progress in the search engines and pages on the sites, I've sent around 100 clicks to Amazon and had not a single sale.

Was it beginners luck? Did I catch a couple of crazy drunken fools that just so happened to have their credit card to hand? Or was this the universe rewarding me for giving something a go? Either way, I need another sale soon to keep my motivation for operating these sites up, or it will be something else that gets put on the backburner never to be seen again...

I've seen some recent comments about Amazon sales being low
in January. I don't think the universe is singling you out for
    punishment.

May be a good idea to stick it out for a while longer rather than
    relegating to the back burner.

Sometimes people look around the internet for after Christmas sales trying to get discounts. In all probability your website is just fine but maybe not so many folks are looking around to spend more money right now.

You wanna see bad conversion ratios: 1:22,590 <-- those are bad conversion ratios. Yes, those are real stats of mine for an adult sponsor in December. Bree Olson isn't sellin' like she used to.

    I'm all about that bass.

First off 100 clicks isn't really enough to come to any conclusions.

Sometimes you may get 5 sales from a hundred clicks but then
the next thousand you may only get a couple.

Just give it more time. I usually wait till I generate around 5,000
clicks before I determine what my conversion rate is.

Plus conversion rates can change from week to week and
      season to season.

Conversion rates can be a tricky business lol.

    thanks for all the responses.

waiting til 5000 clicks is a reasonable time to judge conversion so i think i'll do just that. i have now driven 127 clicks and have a conversion rate of 1.57%. a nasty little figure.

Everyone seems to be forgetting how bad the economy really is at the moment. I was watching a news story today that was saying something ridiculous like 1 in 7 Americans are currently relying on food stamps just to survive. 1 in 7! There are a hell of a lot of people out there who are watching every single dollar they spend.

I'm just grateful I live in Australia. Our economy is still pretty strong in comparison. I haven't noticed a huge difference over here.

The news always overplays the negative.

1-in-7 is about 16.7%. With a 10% unemployment in some areas, that puts the unemployed and the full-time welfare recipients in the same pot. So I would call that number close to accurate.

But how bad is an economy where people are still willing to spend $400 on a cell phone or $80 on a video game?

The economy has simply shifted away from some industries and towards others.

If you are on the welfare roles waiting for those home building and car manufacturing jobs to come back, you may get to join those permanently on welfare.

Yes, I do know several people who have been unemployed for extended periods of time. And they are not in the aforementioned industries.

I simply believe that the economy has shifted, and more people are in better shape than the news companies would have us believe.

Hey Matt, 5,000 clicks would be ideal but seeing as it would probably
take you ages to get that amount of clicks for this site then a few
hundred is probably best before you start making changes to your site
      to increase the conversions.

Don't get yourself down, I've seen a lot worse than 1.57%

Some sites just naturally do better than others. But yeah, some
people would kill for a 1.57% conversion rate lol

A few sales here and there can be considered luck but if you are getting sales consistently then you are doing something right.
