If anyone could answer these few questions would be a grate help.
I am using wordpress and FileZilla to do my first web page, but being a newbe I have hit a few speed humps.
Wordpress question
Do you need to install wordPress for each new domain name you register?
Or should I say for each new web page, or new site you won't to up load.
When using FileZilla and I connect to main site, do I have to set up new domain names in Site Manager? Or can I access new name through main site.
I have been practicing installing and uploading sites, but think I have messed up the file structure if you can do that, so I need to start fresh.
(It would help if I knew what questions to ask.)
Maybe if someone could explain the process of getting a new site up and running.

With Filezilla, if you have a primary domain with add-on domains then you can either access the subdomains through the primary domain by drilling down to the subdomain or you can add each subdomain individually in the site manager and access them directly.

Easiest way to add WP sites is to use Fantastico or your hosts installer script.

I believe that he means that you would need to install on each domain on which you wish to host a blog. The Wordpress files are required to run each blog on each domain.

By static site, he is talking about a regular old website. You know, one like www.yourdomain.com/index.html. If you would like to host a website like that, you don't need to upload the Wordpress files.

Before there were blogs, all we had we normal (or static) web sites created in Frontpage, Dreamweaver or some other website editor which we had to upload with a FTP program such as Filezilla. If we wanted to change a static site, it could be quite time consuming however now with Wordpress blogs themes are easy changed, plugins added/deleted with ease, posts added, pages updated - overall much more user friendly.

Hey, you should being enjoying our Australia Day holiday rather than glued to your computer. I'm off to watch the cricket.

You would install Wordpress for each of your domain names if you want to have a blog rather than a static site. If your hosting company has Cpanel (all good ones do) you install Wordpress by going to Fantastico in your Cpanel and then follow the instructions. (At this stage you don't need Filezilla as the creation is automatic through Fantastico - you just have to indicate where you want the script installed ie root or a different folder.)

Normally, you would install Wordpress on the root folder but you could install other Wordpress blogs in sub-folders but you have to take into account the size of your site allowable in your hosting package.

The latest versions of Wordpress allow you to upload themes, most plugins etc from within the Wordpress Controlpanel and a ftp program is now not used as much.

Concerning your enquiry on Filezilla, each domain name has to setup in the SiteManager with its individual User Name & Password. So, if you have 10 domains there would be 10 in the Site Manager each with its unique User Name & Password.

You need to install Wordpress on each new domain that you want to have a blog on. However, if you would like to have multiple domains point to the same blog, then you only need to install wordpress once, then simply point the other domains to the domain that installed wordpress to. (hope that made sense, didn't know how else to say it)

Filezilla is an awesome tool. I use it everyday. If you have used Fantastico, then chances are good that you will not need Filezilla for your blog unless you start editing the template or the css that you are using.

When you install Wordpress with Fantastico, you can choose to install it to your domain's main directory (like www.yourdomain.com) or to a sub-directory (like www.yourdomain.com/blog). Fantastico will load the necessary files onto the choosen directory, then it will create a database for your blog. The database will automatically be named "(your cpanel login)_wrdp"

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask anything else. I work with this stuff everyday.
