Please Guide Me Through The Installation Process of ArticleDashboard Software at FreeHostia

When it comes to web hosting and installation, I am a complete newbie.

Can anyone of you be so kind to guide me step-by-step with a few basic ideas here and there?

Thanks so much.

Note: It's either Article Dashboard or ArticleMS

In the ArticleMS, it says after uploading all the files and directories, just point to the browser where your files are uploaded, and you will automatically be guided to the installation process, but can't find how...I see only a blank white page when I open pronclair.com in the browser

It took me 2 weeks to figure it out 4 years ago and I had help from a busy support forum which is no longer there. If I remember rightly there was a PDF with it, but my advice would be to forget the AD script, it's unsupported and very hackable.

If you really want to run an article directory I would suggest going for a supported script like Article Friendly or Article MS, or use Wordpress even. I know that Article Friendly is easy to set up and there is a support forum.

If you want to set up an article directory because you believe the hype about them being easy to make money with, they aren't. They can be a massive drain on your time and not very rewarding, especially to those new to the business. Niche directories are easier to run than general subject.

      Good luck

I don't know about Article MS but Article Friendly costs $49.99, but it's worth paying for because you get support and updates. It's also easy to install. It's that old saying 'You get what you pay for'. Realistically it would probably cost more to pay somebody to guide you step by step through setting up the AD script as you wanted in your original post because it's time consuming to set up.

  • Sorry I cannot help directly as I have no experience of those produst, but as a product owner, I would expect my customers to request support directly from me, so if your supplier cannot support the product to a sufficient level are you sure its something you want to continue with?

And if you look above another warrior comments that they had problems years ago, so obviously nothing has improved.

Go with Article MS (free) or anything except Article Dashboard. It's just not worth the lack of support, hacking, etc. I've been there - and you'll find a zillion other warnings across the web about Article Dashboard.

I use Article Dashboard, but only because I can customize the setup thru the power of php.

It is a major security hazard for the uninitiated.

Good luck, I haven't tried that one but almost anything has got to be better than AD. If that doesn't work for you try Wordpress

As I found out. It had one saving grace - I learned what php was but it was a hard lesson

Then you've got a product to sell. My understanding was the encrypted parts of the script prevented a real security update.

I had a nice AD site but abandoned it due to the security problems.

can you tell me after I created the MySQL database, how to create the table?

          The table name and fields?

You dont have to create the tables. I have not used this sotware but usually just upload the files to your root folder, and then access the website on your browser, it should come up with the installer screen.

If not, then contact support. Every software comes with a readme or instructions file, which contain info on how to install that software.

            Good Luck.

Ah! Many thanks. I just opened the ReadMe file and am trying out the installation process. Let's see how it goes.

Why would you want to put an article directory on a free host to begin with??

Almost any script like that is going to involve creating a MySQL file and then changing the name of the file in the actual script. Not hard really but can be somewhat daunting if you're not familiar with cpanel and editing files on your server.
