Looking for clarification on Keyword Density issue please

Hi all,

I know I should know the answer to this, but today, for some reason, my brain appears to have turned to mush.

I've looked for clarification, but the more I read, the more conflicting information I see and the more confused I get, so I'm hoping that someone will be able to offer some advice please

With regard to keyword density in an article, if my main keyword is garage door springs, is it only garage door springs that it counted as a keyword, or do the words garage, door, spring, springs, garage door and door springs also count as keywords when they're mentioned on their own within the article?

I'm asking because if they do, obviously this will affect the keyword density %.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi Sherrie,

in effect EVERY word in your article is a keyword. So yes garage, garage door and garage door springs are all counted as seperate keywords. But this is a good thing, because your site may be served up to people searching for any of those three terms.

How are you checking KW density? SEO Quake tool bar is good for a quick check on published pages.

    Hi Sherrie,

You would only count the full keyword "garage door springs". However, the individual words "garage", "door" and "springs" may also count as keywords, but they would be naturally occurring and unrelated to the KD of your main keyword.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you Dave and Colin for helping to clear the fog!

Dave, currently, I'm only checking unpublished articles, so I'm using an online keyword density checker and just tweaking until I get to 3% or thereabouts.

I haven't used SEO Quake for checking published stuff, but I do have it - a classic example of under-utilization of a useful tool! Will give it a try now though.

      Thanks again both.
