Is january a bad month for you guys?

It has been horrible for me. I have gone over a week without a sale and that is not normal at all. I think it is starting to effect me in ways that I am over thinking what I am doing wrong. I am generating the same amount of visitors but for some reason the phone isn't ringing, and emails aren't coming in!

Is january a slower month for you guys? What do you do to overcome slumps?

    very slow for me, in fact i'm having serious trouble getting client work in at the moment (i offer design and SEO services). usually I have people contacting ME, but not this month. really hoping it picks up soon.

    Sorry to hear that guys... January has been awesome for me!

    I think it's a good month because people want to have a great NEW year and better themselves, so they take it upon themselves to acquire the necessary tools needed to accomplish their goals.

    Also, when people get their tax checks... It's spending time!

    What can you do (in your design business) to appeal more to the "new year" aspect of your potential customers?

    i've offered an all-inclusive SEO deal with proven results for a low monthly cost, fired it out to around 300 prospects that i've met at networking events and did a reminder email yesterday as the promo expires end of jan.

    Maybe it's because of the type of niche you're in. My guess is its because of Christmas. It just happened last month and people have spent lots of their $$$ there (gifts, trips, vacations etc...). So, they need some time to catch up with their bills.

    If your service or product is something that can be delayed from having, then it's only natural to see a drop in sales... Just my two cents

    Well I'm glad some of you are doing great! This is just frustrating for me, because I've had a lot of business rolling in for a bit, and it has come to almost a complete stopping point. I thought my email might have been broken because I'm not getting half the emails I'm used to. The phone is ringing about 75% less. It is very frustrating.

    I have some sales lined up, waiting for it to come through and that will be great. Right now though, it is at the point that I'm cashing coins in. Not sure why things aren't coming through for me. I have offered a sale, I guess I need to offer a better one!

      I'm having a good month on Amazon and especially in 3 of my niches, but Adsense is down. Promising things happening in other areas too.

      I expected it to be down and planned to make a lot of site improvements and promote hard which I think is the best thing to do when things are quiet because when it starts getting busy again it's better than ever.

      It's always slow for me the last part of December and in January but usually picks back up in February. Since I've been doing this for about ten years, it's always been the same. So I simply plan ahead for it, and take this time as my ahhhh time and vacation.

      How many other jobs can you take a month off and not have to worry about the bills, etc??

    The first half of January was great for my Amazon affiliate marketing. But the past week has really died down for me also. Sales and traffic.

    I operate a few restaurants, and it's a similar pattern late January and early February. Bills start to come in from the holidays, and people hunker down a bit to catch up on their cash flow.

        This month is turning into the second biggest month EVER in the last 1.5 years. December killed me though, I think it was the second worst month ever :-) but that is expected over the holidays in my niches.

    See, I expected to have a really bad december, but december was great for me. I expect to have an extremely good january, with web design and SEO clients, but it has been extremely bad!

    I don't sit around and wait for people to come to me. I go out and try to get them. I do cold calls, emails, I do a lot to get business coming in. The numbers aren't playing in my favor right now. I remember the last time I had a little slump, it ended up coming in and I was almost too busy to handle it all. I expect the same to happen.

    I had a lot of unfortunate events that happened this month too.

    One was a customer that apparently is notorious for chargeback fraud. I just WON the dispute about an hour ago, so I think that is a step in the right direction! Just going to keep doing everything I've been doing and try some new techniques, and hopefully things will be rolling in!

      content. Day 16 we sent one email that suggest three
      different things we have been trying out for them to
      make business better.

      Went right back to content, day 23 we did another
      offer for WP plugin, it waqs well received.

    It really just depends on what you're selling. Every business or niche has it's peaks and downtime.

    As other posters mentioned, it depends on what you're selling. Winter is the slowest time of year in one of my niches, but my little site still makes decent sales. Not as many as during the rest of the year, though.

    Cold weather, bad weather months. Months where people stay inside and amuse themselves online.

    An extended winter or 365 days of night would be cool with me.

    When summer comes, everybody is out and doing stuff. I don't have any sites that cater to those people which is why my sales slow during the summer. I also don't partake in the IM or business related niches so I don't have a captive year round WF base of customers.

    *mental note... gotta get some summer niches rolling ASAP.

    Somebody threw up a chart of what niches were up and down at what times of the year a while back, maybe somebody can dig that up.

      Web Design primarily. It hasn't been TOO bad, probably the last half of the month has been the worst. It had a good start though. I figured I would have increased sales because of the new year and businesses wanting a redesign or to get a website.

      I haven't been doing anything different I don't think.... maybe spending too much time on here. lol.

        I think January success depends what niche you're in.

        I do a lot of web development and web copywriting for offline clients as well as my online activities. Online has been so so. Offline clients have been very active in requesting quotes for website redesign and enhancements because they want to get their website updated for the "new year".

        I'm sure for affiliate marketers in niches like weight loss January is good too. Getting slim is usually a common new years resolution.

        In the make money niches I think more people are interested in making extra cash when Christmas is approaching.

    I can tell you outside the IM community, the construction industry has its hadest 2 months right now. Everyone freezes until mid febuary, then all hell breaks loose. I say just relax, it'll come back...it always does.

    My guess why your sales are slow.

    Most people are preoccupied with the holidays and not starting up new websites. January is recovery time. Things should start to pick up as we ease into the new year.

    Probably it's just the niche effect you're facing. A lot of business do slow
    down after Christmas & New Year eve.

    Over all the month for me has been pretty crappy. However both my traffic and andsense revue reached all time highs on one of my main sites. I also made 100 today in clickbank sales from that same site. But other then that it was looking pretty grim there for a little while.

    Just remember the state of the economy out there. Things are pretty bad at the moment - people seem to forget that. As I mentioned in another similar thread, I was watching a news report yesterday where they said that currently 1 in 7 Americans are relying on food stamps just to survive. It maybe the time of year - more likely the state of the economy.

      You're right... I wish we had food stamps.

      See, I have always thought that even when times are tough people are looking for additional ways to make money, or make even more money, and they need a website for that so they come talk to me.

      I'm getting traffic, but I think it is just the numbers having a little variance. It is just a numbers game, and the numbers aren't converting right now, but I expect a massive conversion in the next week or so!

        The important thing is not get down in the dumps about it - just push on. This is also a good argument for why you need to have your feet in various different ponds. You shouldn't just rely on one source of income.

    So... today is my highest traffic day EVER.. this whole WEEK has been great traffic, but NO SALES!! AGGGGH!

    I expect the numbers to come in play and all hit at once pretty soon. I actually have built a few leads and people contacting me today, so that is an improvement!

    January is OK for me. Don't know why put I have a bit more refunds this month! I usually average around 1.5% but I got 5 refunds (so around 5%) so far this month! GRRR...

    Well... January hasn't been as bad as I originally thought. I am at about $1,800 for the month. Just a few more days left. I have about $4,000 in potential sales in the next 7-10 days, so it is picking up for me.
