Right now I am doing 3 posts a day manually, because I have not found a plugin that I'm happy with yet. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to hear them

Yeah, I'm curious as well...I might even set some of these up and if they bring in $50 - $100 a month, try to flip them. Havn't really made up my mind exactly what to do with them.

I hired someone this morning from ODESK to work on a bunch of these sites for me over the next week. They will do all the initial installs and the first batches of content and then I will take over from there.

I actually have that plugin. The only thing I'm trying to avoid is having other peoples resource boxes on my sites so, right now I am sticking to niches that I already have a lot of content for. Although, I may use the plugin in conjunction with CPA and Adsense offers.

Ok, I'm not real up to date on pinging and RSS feeds. So, when you say you set up a significant ping list, do you mean you added your site to sites like Technorati, Newsgator, etc? And if that is what you did, can you then ping them each time you update your blog using Pingoat or Ping My Blog?

Just curious - this stuff is pretty much Greek to me

Also, on RSS feeds - do you have to submit your feed to the aggregators each time you update your blog, or does it automatically update? If I'm going to try this, I want to do it right! I have nearly 550 articles on EZA, and they must be good for something.

If it is a wordpress blog, it should automatically ping every time you make a post...not a page...but a post....

As far as RSS goes, some of them you can just submit once and forget where others you will have to resubmit on occasion to keep them up to date.

Personally, I resubmit about once a month. If the particular aggregator already has my feed and it is up to date great, but if not I will resubmit it.

Add it to the list of incorrect info that is shouted at us by parrots all over the web. Dup content, wikipedia, nofollow its all just rubbish written about by some big marketer who didnt test properly.

Oh well, makes it easier for the rest of us

So true, if you just listen to everything without doing any testing of your own, you are leaving a ton of money on the table.

Jeremy,
I absolutly love this idea and think I will give it a go myself, got quite the base of articles that if fed 1 a day would fill blogs for around 2 months in a hunger market.

You said you went with your own domains (or I think you did, running on lack of sleep), did you go keyword heavy on these or just grab niche specific domain names and did you go .com or .info

I think I know a great way to randomize the order of posts as well, just go into my EZA account and sort the articles by the various sort methods they offer, like article number, name, veiws etc, this way they are in random order and I will have 5 different orders I could use on 5 different blogs.

Another quick question, did you grab traffic for them in the same way as you did for the bootcamp?

Thanks and grats on the success.

Jeremy and I have both been doing a lot of testing because...I like to break things and fix them and make them better LOL...

Just like Michael Taylor said:
Quote:

Absolutely correct...
I think it often confuses people because they think using the same info more than once on the entire internet gives them a duplicate content penalty hehe...If that were the case the internet as a whole would be about 3/4 smaller right now hehe...

I do see from testing that linking the same content to the same content via take for instance a Squidoo page that has the same exact article on it that I have on a blog somewhere. Only one will get the greatest benefit out of it. Because Google does try and not show the same content in their results...however that same article or content may rank higher on another page for a different keyword phrase...So one outranks one for one phrase and the other outranks the other for another phrase. Yet they are the same exact content...

Moral of the story...
Don't waste all those articles and different types of content you have created on just EZA and a few other article directories...

Bang it out as content on sites of your own as well as freebie blogs, hubpages, squidoo, etc...

Fear not the duplicate content penalty unless you are linking to the same content on the same site. Plus I still recommend not to overdo linking to the same content from the same content on different sites as well. Do that sparingly...

However blast the rest of your content out on various sites over time...

Sylvia, I did use my own domains, but just made it a fairly general term. I used .com figuring I would have the best luck with it, not really sure what the result would have been with .info.

I really didn't do a whole lot for traffic except for pings, social bookmark, and add content regularly. I may start driving some traffic though lol

One thing to remember for those concerned about duplicate content on a single domain blog, is that there's a duplicate content plugin available for Wordpress that will ensure only one version of the content is visible to the search engines. So just in case you end up accidentally posting the same article to your blog twice, the plugin should save you from being penalised for duplicate content.

My personal website - http://www.avene.org (videos, photos, music)

I've had the opposite experience in a couple of niches. In one case I wrote a loooong and detailed Squidoo lens, and later re-used the content on a WP-based site of my own. Google really loved the lens (it was #2 at one point in a medium-competition niche) but ignored - totally - the WP site. Last week the lens got removed from Squidoo and lo and behold, all of a sudden I am getting traffic from Google to the WP site.

In 2 other niches I used articles from EZ and Populate.net on WP blogs. Both are up to 150-250 posts each, more than 6 months old, and get almost no traffic at all. Google is apparently ignoring the content.

And my original-content non-duplicate sites DO get Google traffic, so it's not because there's something wrong with the site setup.

So, re-using may or may not work for you.

Kevin

That is awesome! You can use that content over and over and over again in multiple ways to get the best results. If it were dead than when you put the title of an article into Google than only one result would come up. I have press releases and articles that have over 50 results or more come up at once! Way to go!

Kevin, in the example you gave, did you like your squidoo and WP blog together?

I've read a couple case studies on this now and almost all of them have worked out similar to my experience.

Just curious as to what we might be doing different.

Does anyone have a good resource that shows a person from start to finish, how to set up a blog and properly optimize it as disussed in this forum and many other places online? I work SEO in other forms of online marketing but have not looked into this blog stuff very much thus far. I have been seeing so much about it lately, I am getting more and more interested. Thanks.

Search for Caroline Middlebrook I think...If I remember correctly she had a free guide that showed installation and set up from beginning to end. Also, look for Sagar Mehta - Hope I spelled that right

Help! I am new to this forum and I stumbled across this thread and found it really interesting. First of all, where are you all talking about getting this duplicate content from? Like from another blog or website then just putting it on your blog? Also, where are you getting the traffic from for your new blog with the duplicate content?
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Rich,

In my case it was my own content that was written under a Pen Name that I have at EzineArticles. However, I would imagine that you could just as likely take any content that you have rights to use and do that same thing.

This is something that I'm actually testing right now and will hopefully have some more news to report back shortly

As far as driving traffic, in my case, I didn't do much more than set my blog up to ping every time a post was made and submit my rss feed to a couple of RSS sites.

The key here, I think anyway is to spread the content out. What I mean is post a couple articles a day for 3 weeks straight or so.

What I'm focusing on now is the best way to monetize the traffic I'm getting. Currently all of the revenue has been derived through affiliate sales. I am going to test Adsense, CPA, and also adding some type of opt-in box to appropriate niches.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is going to sound like a total newbie question (I kinda am), but by setting your blog up to ping every time a post is made, what does that exactly do. Also, I know what RSS feeds do and why they are important, but how does that bring you traffic exactly? By submitting the feed to those "couple of RSS sites", I assume they are sites that are wanting syndicated content?

Rich, by pinging your posts you are essentially letting the world know that your blog has updated. Hopefully, getting the search engines back to your site.

With the RSS - take what I say here for what it's worth because I"m definitely not an RSS EXPERT But, many of them will keep an updated snapshot of your site...every time you update your feed updates as well. Not to mention the fact that your feed itself could rank in the SERPS in addition to the backlinks that it gives to your site.

Jeremy, are you buying up new domains to post the content to? And do you link directly to the clickbank merchant or to your main website?

Jeremy,

i started an ultra simple "student loan consolidation" WP blog, working off the great "ProSense" template which i feed with Caffeinated Content.

It seems to go off the last days, i get many comments and google indexes my sites. I should make more blogs. CC + WP rocks!!

Edit: i don't spin either, i still want it to be a site for humans

GeorgR, a couple of quick questions. What exactly do you mean by 'Caffeinated Content'? Sorry, I've not heard that one before.

Also, I notice that ProSense theme gets used a lot. I'm just curious as the what makes this so popular. The built in Adsense with the links along the top that look like site page links?

By the way, you're missing a privacy policy on that student loans page There's actually a WP plugin in for that.

Yes, the Squidoo lens had a couple of links to the WP blog, and drove quite a good chunk of traffic to it.

I'm not saying your results are wrong, BTW - just that I haven't had the same ones (I sure wish I did!).

Your problem, the way I see it is, you are linking the same content to the same content. From what I've read and tested, this will cause a dupe content penalty....

Yes, I'm buying new domains...

The links off the page go directly to the sales page

For some of the tests Jeremy and I are doing right now...here is a rundown...

1) We buy a keyword phrase .com

2) We install the following plugins:
  • Related Content Plugin (this links related posts together)
  • All-in-one-seo pack
  • google sitemap generator
  • google analytics
  • tangaroo
Those are it...

3) We use prosense (in this experiment)

4) We are targeting a clickbank product and Adsense

5) The main pages have Adsense in various places (prosense is set up that way)

6) We use a banner for the clickbank product over every post on the main page

7) On the actual post pages there is a a form where people enter in something and that takes them to a clickbank product (They have committed subconsciously to taking some kind of action)

8) We tag all the posts with keywords and flickr images using the tagaroo plugin (Cool thing about tagaroo it will inject semantic meta data...data about data when a search engine crawls your site)

9) Set the related post plugin to show 3 related posts at the bottom of every post page...(Keep the crawler deep crawling our content form one to the next)

10) We ad a descent description for every post using all-in-one-seo

11) We submit the feed to various feed aggregators (Your wordpress feed is www.mydomain.com/feed)
Aggregators that allow tagging we tag the feeds with keywords we are targeting

12) We add google analytics

13) We add the sitemap to google webmaster tools by default the plugin makes sitemap.xml which would be reached by going to www.mydomain.com/sitemap.xml
For those of you that wonder where you rank in google for certain phrases that people reach your site with...Google webmaster tools will give you a summary of every month that shows you

14) We add a large list of ping sites to the are of wordpress when you go to "settings" and then "writing" you see a section that says "Update Services" that is where you add those. Every post they are notified...

15) We add all Jeremy's previously written content here and there adding it just like a normal user would add posts...

16) build more backlinks

17) Collect revenue

This strategy has proved to be very profitable...Hopefully didn't leave anything out...

Default for the IM newbies

I'm a newbie at IM and I realised something, just now a I was reading this thread. It is great and I was about just to jump into this.
However I've realised that if I jump into every second great new thing that is on the WF, I'll never learn THE BASICS. Just yesterday I've decided to focus on Chris's conduit method combined with Allan Gardyne's 18 steps affiliate marketer manual for newbies like me. And then here I am today, getting excited at the next great quick making money scheme (don't get me wrong, I am NOT putting it down, that's not what I mean at all) that comes along on the WF.
Then I stopped, and I said no. I'll work through the basics first, to get a good IM foundation, and then and only then I will tackle these more advanced things. Because these are all aimed at the people who already know what they do.

Look at some of the posts here above in this thread - some people don't know what an RSS is, some others don't know how to set up a WP blog (I'm one of those, btw) but they all want to get $600 in the next hour. How, may I ask, will you do this???

IM newbies: learn first the basics and then jump in schemes and programs to get the quick cash, when you at least know the technicalities of what all is involved in it. Learn first something that you have at least a bit of success with, and then replicate, duplicate and go for new things to learn. Else I predict that 4 years down the road you're still going after the next quick money making thing and wondering why noone is visiting your site (note to self: learn from my own preaching!!!!!)

Um, did i just make an ass of my mouth? lol!

No you didn't "just make an ass of (your) mouth!"

You spoke the dead on truth!

I myself have been guilty of doing just what you've said and now, 1 year on and sticking to a plan and working the &^%$£" guts out of that plan am I making money!

My 3rd CB cheque is due in a week or so and after getting the first 2 in quick succession - that only happened because I finally stuck to ONE plan and focused on that one plan!

Newbies if you only take one thing from this thread, then it should be to study and absorb what "Kislany" has written!

I don't see any reason that you couldn't

We are testing now with a couple of different sites and a ton of PLR that we have on our hard drives.

Jermey,

are you getting your 100 uniques per day from just organic search engine traffic? Also how many articles did it take to get you to that 100 per day?

Lastly have you tried to see what happens when you only update your site say perhaps once a week after you get your site "loaded" with a good amount of content?

Great post by the way

Cory, a good bit of the traffic was coming from a bookmark on Digg and also an RSS submission at feedagg. However, there is organic traffic coming in every day.

I have not really experimented yet with updating less frequently, but we just set up a couple different blogs over the last 2 days that we are going to test a bunch of different ways
