Akismet - How Many of You Pay for This Plugin?

I know many of you say that Akismet is the best spam filter but they are now charging a monthly fee for using it if yours is an income producing site.

Do you actually choose that option and pay the monthly fees for it?

If you choose 'personal' and get it for free, do they check?

I'm just using WP Spam Free right now but it's allowing all comments to get through. I just ignore the spammy ones and don't approve them.

What do others do?

    I haven't seen that anywhere. I've just looked on one of my blogs and it doesn't say anything about charging or give any options. There are over 1000 spam comments on that blog that Akismet has stopped just from the last week so I guess it would be worth paying for, but on some of my blogs I've stopped comments altogether because I wanted to know how many real vistors there were without the spammers.

      They are trying to charge for it if you run a commercial site.
      It appears you're in the clear if you have an existing API key,
      though. I just created a new site a couple days ago and was able
      to use my existing key with no problems and no nag screens.

        ..would someone explain how akismet works(havent used it)? Does it prevent spamm even without captcha? At the moment I am using reCAPTCHA...

    I don't like Akismet either. All it takes is a few trigger-happy Akismet users and you completely block someone from commenting on a good portion of blogs out there.
