I am probably being dumb - WP questions

Okay so my site is: Cure Insomnia
Now I only just set it up and it is shocking! But I want to do a few things. If people could tell me how. I am not asking you to rate my site, well not yet, as I know the answer.

1.) How do I remove the home tab in the top right corner?

2.) Can I fit the graphic without actually changing it?

3.) Do I need a header for SEO purposes (I know I do right? Stupid question.)

4.) Do you think it is "too" plain?

Thanks.

It depends on the theme. What WP version do you use? Try out the latest WP version 3.0.4 and try the new, built-in theme and "play" with it.

Of course, sooner or later you want a professional theme like "thesis" which allows all such customizations. But the current default theme in wp 3.04 is pretty good.

See above. You are talking about the picture? The built in editor might be limited, you might want to try "FCK Editor for wordpress" which replaces the default editor..and i THINK you can simply right click the image then and resize right from the editor. But there are also like 9 zillion plugins, eg. NextGen gallery has a HEAP of features how to integrate pictures etc...but might be overkill in your case.

No. If you mean "image" header.

Of course It looks like you just made it and the text looks "slapped on"...but still better than my first web site Try a different theme!

If you mean the tab in the menu bar, there's a plugin that will do that for you.

Have you tried left-justifying it in the page editor?

Why do you need a header for SEO? If you're talking about a graphic, you don't. The only thing you give up is the ability to keyword stuff the alt tags.

I think you need a lot more copy than that to sell a $37 course. The design is decent once you fix the graphic alignment. At worst, you can lay down a baseline and test adding more bells and whistles later.

Anything else, and I start straying into evaluating the page as a whole, so I'll let you get to work on this...

No header as in just title on page sorry I said that wrong.
Also it took me ages to just get the site like that, so annoying fiddling with wordpress. Hopefully be worth it in the end. I have been fiddling with themes for atleast 3 hours now!

Anytime you pick up something new and want to do something besides the out-of-the-carton configuration, you end up fiddling with things until you get them just right. What you're going through is normal, even if it is frustrating.

Having just a title on the page, like you do now, is fine.

I'd recommend changing your copy. You haven't really spelled out the benefits of why a person would need a sleep course.

You can mention something about people suffering bad insomnia. Pills don't seem to work. Doctor fees add up. It could be due to other factors.

You can also point out other things how lack of sleep is seriously bad for the health. It's been linked to weight gain, low productivity, poor health, etc. (the problem is exacerbated)

Then you mention how the sleep course solves all that.

THEN you say what the features are.

Otherwise, the person reading it will go, "Oh, this is an ad. Someone's trying to sell something to me. I'll just go buy more sleeping pills. It's cheaper."

Think about who your targeted audience is. What is their real problem. What is their goal? What keyword did they type to find your site? Why did they type in that keyword, etc.

To hide the page .. try using "Exclude pages plug-in"

you can search google for it and it should come up in a wordpress site.

        hope it helps

        :O)

Do you think it is "too" plain?
No. I think it looks clean. If it is too busy, readers don't know where to look. Your "clean" look invites people to read.

However, centered type is difficult to read. It is fine for a headline, but not for a group of statements. The readers eye expects to go back to the left-hand side of the page whenever it gets to the end of the words on the right. If the left-hand margin is jumping all over the place, the eye doesn't know where to go.

The copywriting needs a lot of help. It contains some awkward sentence construction and doesn't flow yet.

How about a way to capture email addresses by offering a special report? Then send the addresses to an autoresponder so you can follow up with product reminders.
