Niche selection determines if you will succeed or not. But trying to budge your way into a large niche ( example ; Weight loss ) is hard. So people go for sub-niches ( Example; workouts or diets being a sub niche of weight loss ). Now some Sub-niches have a high search amount and low competitors, gurus would say that means there is no demand in that niche and you wouldn't make any money, so you shouldn't waste the time to make a site for it.

What is a good way to find a great niche or sub niche with low competition, and will be able to create an income? what signs or things to look for to find if its worth making a site for it? I'm tryinh to make sub-niche websites to make multiple streams of income from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am quite new myself, but have taken a lot of training and am learning fast. I am using a tool called 'Market Samurai' to help me with keyword research, finding niches, determining SEO competition, and a lot more. It is a not a free tool, but it has a lot of uses that free tools normally don't have. The training videos make learning how to use the tool easy. Market Samurai is offering a free trial period so people can test it before they purchase it. I have a link to their Free Trial on my site, listed below:

First off get Market Samurai or a similar program. MS does cost a bit, but they have a free trial so you can try the software before you buy it. They also have a series of great tutorial videos, you learn to use it correctly.

Let me give you an example with the weight loss niche

Weight Loss ---->Diet Pills------>Diet Pills for Women

As you can see you can drill all the way down to a very small part of the market. Yes the traffic is lower, but you can target these people with less competitive keywords and conversion will be higher (hopefully).

I know about market Samauri and Micro niche finder, but they can't tell if a Sub-niche is profitable. I'm not going into the weight loss niche, and that was a bad example because everything about it is profitable. Let me elaborate a bit better. Say I wanted to do clocks, so I sum it down to Cho-cho Clocks, a sub niche. Now how could I tell if thats a profitable niche and worth going after? It has a lower search amount then say "Clocks" so its hard to tell if it will or not be. I was hoping if anyone had any great way to help with niche selecting.

Riddlesome - first, nobody can ensure something will be profitable. What works for you might not work for me. It's just the nature of the beast. That said, there are many good posts on this forum that cover niche and keyword research/selection. Here's one that I think can guide your niche and keyword selection in the right direction for generating some income.

It might be a good way to start by identifying sub niches first, and then deciding if they could be profitable for you in your circumstances.

If you look for smaller niches this, instead of having your goal be to find high search/low comp kinds of things. Then you can look at teh results you have found and then look to see which might be possibly profitable for you.

It sounds like a little thing, spltting hairs even, but if you are expecting a certain kind of results when you first start looking around, you are going to miss out on a lot of possibilities.

When you find a high search/low comp idea. Check and see if there is anything for sale online. If there are a lot of things, and multiple people selling them, that is a pretty good indiciation that it could work for you to.

Very interesting question... And for some purposes marketers advice to choose HUGE niches and others advice to choose SMALL niches...

    The main thing to remember:

    Huge Niches Have High Competition!

This is what i do, I use Adwords Keywords Tool and the SEO quake plug-in.

you can select a keyword and type it into the keyword tool, look at the 'Exact' search result, sort it, and check out the competition using SEO quake for those keywords that have enough exact local monthly traffic.

In the Adwords keywords tool, click on the keywords and the google search results will come up in another web browser page or tab. If the first page has at least 3 PR (page rank) 0 sites or n/a page rank sites, it may be worth your time building a page/website for that keyword as there may be a good chance you may end up on the first page with some SEO efforts.

I double check the keywords I have found on Traffic Travis. All free tools!

If you are looking for a profitable sub-niche, then look at how many searches the term is getting daily. If you go for a sub-niche with lets say 500-1k exact terms, then as long as the competition is low, meaning you can rank to page 1 quickly, then you should be profitable because there are people still searching the term and they will get to your site first (if you rank in the top 3 of page 1)

You can make any niche profitable if you're willing to spend the time and money for advertising. For some people, they just don't have the budget to spend for PPC or promoting/advertising, so go for organic traffic. That's the whole point of using software like Market Samurai. Finding a keyword is only half the battle, the other half is checking out your competition's backlinks and seeing if you can outrank them in a short period of time.
