How to get traffic using Twitter?

Okay I have Twitter now. How do I get people to come to my site? Do I have to manually add people, one by one, to my Twitter and start tweeting? Is there a tool to automate this process (adding people / twitting) ?

there's a great tool called tweetattacks.

I use this for my twitter campaigns. I think this is the tool you're looking for.

Tweetattacks is good, but I had a few problems with it. I now use a combination of Twittman (for getting followers) and su.pr (for automated posting)

is this still an effective way to build your own list? tweet-attacking using tools?

The comments above seem to be about getting lots and lots of followers, not actually getting traffic.

I have several twitter accounts, one has over 3000 followers, this was built up using tools like the one above - I've never made a sale from it, despite trying. The reason? The tools like above just mass follow others with scant regard for what you have to sell.

Another account has about 400 followers but they are all interested in a particular niche I'm promoting. When I tweet an offer, I get several sales each time.

For me the difference between manually targetting people interested in what you have to sell and using tools to mass follow people is a bit like trying to sell dog baskets to a 500 strong list of dog basket enthusiasts and trying to sell dog baskets to a 20,000 strong list of people that don't actually have dogs.

Half the problem in IM is everyone is so desperate to make money yesterday they don't take the time to learn how to do it properly today.

This is a business, it takes time, magic bullets and get rich quick schemes don't actually exist but for the people selling them to those who want to believe in them.

IM or blogging is a business. If you do a wishy-washy job, you'll only get as much. I used an auto tweeting software a few weeks ago. I stopped using it last week and it all but left me with thd same number of followers despite all the energy I put into it. Quality always beats quantity. Always.

I'd stay away from using automated tools when following people on Twitter. It's far better to manually analyze and select people to follow. What you are looking for here is quality and not quantity - it'll do you no good to follow 50,000 auto-bots on Twitter. It'd just be a huge number that means nothing, and brings no tangible benefits to you.

I've had a love hate relationship with Twitter for some reason, it's taken me a long time to feel comfortable using it... now I love it and it's one of my most successful places to market.

I tried TweetSpinner (I think) which no longer works with the API altho they kept billing me. Now, I manage my account myself - I follow relevant people, unfollow people who aren't following me back, and Twitter Search is literally one of the best tools out there imo.

I could do with a way of scheduling some Tweets, so I'll look into su.pr - I hold a Twitter "class" on a nutrition topic 5 days a week and scheduling some of those Tweets in advance would be handy sometimes... like now, when I'm working in bed with my sick toddler needing attention

    hello,
i must say i have just started using social media lately. but the best lesson i learned so far is:
    - do not just add and confirm people to have someone
it´s simply not worth time and effort. if you want to do social media marketing - no matter if that is twitter or facebook - just go ahead and get to know people. like their content, leave comments, re-tweet, follow them, build relationships.
i learned that it´s not as easy ad simply adding follower by follower because those are no quality and targeted visitors. it won´t help your business but is a waist of time.
so i´d say - start building up one account, get to know people and then think of making money from your connections.

Getting traffic from Twitter is possible if you have the target followers who can be the traffic sources. In addition, make sure that you’ll not directly promote using Twitter as it’s not effective.

I suggest that you do it manually and painfully and get more followers by following them first and by the next 72 hours if they don't follow you, you should remove them. Why I suggest manually is because you can choose the niche and more hungry buyers rather than you follow all the internet marketers like us. Choose wisely who you want your followers be and always interact with them and give valuable tweets. Information tweets should be 70% while promotion should be 30%. Lastly quality is better than quantity. Just my 2 cents.

My approach for Twitter has been manually adding friends that are interested in my niche. One niche is cooking and I look for other twitter accounts that have cooking "type" names. I also have a blog where I include tweets to new friends and offer links to content. It can be very effective for marketing purposes. Also, a giveaway can be a great way to gain new followers.

Simple. Follow people who have an expressed interest in your niche, and talk with them.

In other words, tread Twitter like you would any social event. Talk with people, share interesting things with them. Every now and again, put a link to a blog post you made that has useful info in it, and maybe an affiliate link.

Oh, and don't spam. Common sense really, but people tend to be really stupid on this matter.

    Any questions?

Tread your followers like you would tread your friends,
No one will want to be friends with you if you don't have anything interested to say. So it's the same way on twitter.

Twitter is very much a social function. I tried the get the followers stuff, both automated and manual, and it didn't yield much fruit.

Not I simply follow people whose good content I like.

If you tweet good content and leave it alone, people will follow you, slowly but surely. If you like them, follow them back.

Have a conversation with them. When others see you're having genuine conversations, people tend to tag on.

When you have quality content, people tend to tag on as well.

Ihave to agree with the post made by Richard above its important to make sure you build up a targeted list of people actually interested in what your selling .These days theres a lot of software where you can quickly build up alist of 1000s of followers .But they probably will not be remotely interested in you or what your promoting
However you might push afree offer just another throught

In my old life I was very successful with social network marketing. I'll preface this by saying I don't really believe social network traffic is as valuable as it used to be. I would take 1000 organic google visitors over 10,000 drawn in through social networks. With that said.

        1- Get a Twitter bot.

2- Make sure you put your URL where they allow it in your profile so its clickable.

3- If you want extra traffic have your Twitter name be your URL.

4- Find other Twitter pages that will have a similar demographic to what you're after.

5- Download their followers list with your bot.

6- Set the bot to follow 150-200 people a day

7- Have some quality tweets, occasionally including your URL

8- You may want to set the bot to automatically message all new followers with a quick message thanking them for following and including your URL.

If done correctly you can add a steady stream of traffic to your site while also building a huge targeted Twitter follower base.

There's a happy medium out there between trying to be best friends with each and every follower you have and following every living soul possible.

The strategy is different depending on what you want Twitter for. In one account I´m using it to broadcast the community messages, I use twitterfeed to post the rss feed directly.

being the content pretty good, I do have visitors and even registrations from twitter. It is completely in autopilot and provides backlinks (sort of).

about the followers list, I jump in once a week or so, cherry pick following and chat a bit. From there I had some interesting interactions, like link exchange etc.

It all depends on what you have to offer, vs what you are asking. If you offer more than you ask for, then you have results. If you don´t... well.

Ok I've heard some very good advice hear about getting more followers. About 2 years ago i used a free programs called twitter blaster pro and got thousands of followers, then i used another free program to unfollow them. I got thousands of followers. Now I only have about 2400 followers. They convert well because the actually pay attention to what I promote. I don't promote blindly. I test everything i promote and give feed back in several tweets. I also tweet what I do after i make my money with a certain promotion... ie. just got of the plane to Vegas, heading to the hardrock to gamble to $1800 I made with.... People seem to love that stuff. The point is don't just promote. tweet about you good time and struggles to keep real followers. Ask your self this, why do some many people watch the jersey shore. Most peoples lives are sort of boring. I happen to make ok money online and can take crazy trips on occasion. People dig that. Just try to be real and only promote good stuff you actually like and use. Im out....

    Hello Friends.......

Twitter is very popular at present and this can function to transmit traffic to your website. There are some rules that you need to obey however when using Twitter

One of the foremost requirements is that you are involved in the community. This means that you must make significant contributions to the community.

Another key factor that you should consider is the fact that you need to reply to others. This is all a part of involvement. When you participate in conversations with others on Twitter they will reply to you. There is a key feature on Twitter whereby when others reply to you, the persons that follow them are able to connect to your profile. This widens your audience greatly and means that your exposure is increased. It is therefore essential that you make lots of contributions to conversation and keep your involvement on the site high.

    Thanks

  • I am new to twitter as well, but I've been getting into it lately. Basically the idea is to follow people with similar interests, in hopes that they will follow you back. The more followers you have, the more people will read your tweet as soon as you make them. But at some point you reach a limit and then you can't follow any more people. At that point you have to remove people that are not following you back. You can use software to automate twitter, however they can ban and delete your account; in which case you lose months of hard work.

Ive done some pretty aggressive twitter marketing. Following up to 500 people a day and unfollowing vitrually all of them the next day. Ive never had an account deleted or banned. Unless you're just constantly spamming your tweets with sales links I think you'll be ok.

If you have a targeted following and provide quality content it is possible to get a lot of traffic from Twitter. If your content is good enough then other users will promote your account and drive new followers and traffic for you.

Use links in your tweets and your bio and automatically send a welcome DM to new followers with SocialOomph.

Keep in mind that around half the people using Twitter are using it from a mobile device so make sure that your landing pages are appropriate.

Hi, there seems to be a lot of response to your post and that's great. I looked at most of them and distilled it this way: whether by automation or manual make sure your list is build up on people who all share a core (broad) common interest to your niche i.e. a targeted list of people generally interested in what you may offer. Its not all about numbers (yes and no) I prefer to say its about the quality of your list first, then quantity of that quality in that order. Create multiple Twitter accounts and isolate each account laser-ed solely to a particular niche. Its not dissimilar to an offline club or membership of like-minded people e.g. stamp collecting club, yacht sailing club, etc. You get the idea.
I have developed 3 Twitter accounts, my smallest being 5,000 followers and my larger one is 24,000 followers. All I have been doing is building good trusting relationship (and giving good value) - and NOT doing any selling for the time being...not yet

If you want to get loads of "non-targeted" follows.

Just use an automated software like tweet adder and harvest all users who mentioned the keyword "follow back".

    Then just automatically follow them.

Usually these people will follow you back when you follow them
