I use article marketing. I post to article directories. The other thing I do is to post quality articles in my blogs (Blogging) to attract traffic.

I vote for article marketing as still being a powerful tool for targeted free traffic. Forum posting in a specific niche is probably next. Social media can bring traffic, but I'm not sure it converts as reliably as the other two - people are more into socializing than buying.

None of it is really free unless you don't value your own time.

Most things boil down to spending your time or money.
Remember this is a business - sometimes its a mistake to focus on free.
SEO takes time, so does article marketing and many other traffic generation methods.

Paid traffic or outsourcing may be a better alternative . It depends on your business plan.

Well I think Forum posting is the best way among them because now-a-days people are very conscious and to find their answers or solve problems directly use forums. So there's a possibility to drive traffic for your site. Besides Social Media Marketing is another good source of traffic.

Anywhere in which you have developed a good, trusting following. If you have a blog with lots of avid readers, you can get a lot of traffic from those.

for me personally it's article marketing.

On some niches I don't focus on organic traffic because it's too hard to get on the first pages... I simply blast hundreds of optimized articles with my affiliate link every day and the sales are coming in

for me its article marketing and forum & blog posts - but it all takes time. I gwet frustrated when i dont get quick results but you need to be patient (which Im not!!!)

If you know how to do it I'd say micro niche sites that are ranking boosted by quality article backlinks.

Not only would you be ranking for your key phrase and getting organic traffic but your articles would be sending highly targeted traffic to your sites as well. This can produce an easily repeatable and reliable process.

..the hard part is getting the sites to rank

Well, as others have pointed out, nothing's really free...but I get the drift.

But seriously...I can't believe the answers here. Social bookmarking?!?!?

Not that my answers speak for everyone, but the traffic Google brings converts at a WAY higher rate than other sources. WAY HIGHER. So my answer would be SEO.

Lol I would have to agree social bookmarking is good, in my opinion, for backlinks only. People going to reddit aren't looking to buy stainless steel frying pans.

All the methods you mentioned are great. But if you take 15 to 20 minutes a day doing a little free classified posting you will see your leads growing as well. I've been using a little system that a friend showed me for craigslist and it works great.
