Default Travel niche - what are your results?

I was just wondering how things go in a travel niche? How well visitors convert? What are the ways to monetize? Any ideas?

I will be launching a travel site soon and I need some help from warriors who are or been there.

Any information would be most welcome

The travel niche is awsome. I prefer high end travel memberships and have done very well with them. The high ticket prices eliminates the bottom feeders and btw, it takes the same marketing budget to sell a low priced travel option as a high options.

As for travel agents, I'm one but I don't market it as the profit ratios are too low to really bother with.

Hope this helps

actually, I was also thinking to try to break into the Travel niche, because I love to travel and I'd LOVE to leave my job to become a "professional" traveler for the hispanic market.

But I don't know exactly what to do or where to start...

Any ideas?

P.S. please, don't forget to answer Mr. Quilst's OP.

I know many people that do quite well in the travel niche (including me a few years ago). From the conversations I have with many reputable business owners in the travel niche, that is the key...they are in a travel "niche", NOT a travel "market".

For instance, you see many sites that sell to the "travel" market (Direct sales companies and replicated websites..a whole different story), but the many I know that do well specialize in themed destinations and packages. For instance, specialize in Honduras snorkeling or Baja adventures.

Or the ones that join the travel industry through direct sales or network marketing companies will market a certain aspect or USP of it.

In other words, my friends that post on facebook, "Book All Your Travel Through Me"(or whatever) I can tell are not making any money and have no marketing strategy compared to the person who markets with, "The Lowest Prices On Princess Cruises ANYWHERE: Click Below"on a cruise related site do much better....or at least have a clear message that connects the visitor to what they are now interested in.

I have shot and produced dozens of travel promos with travel salespeople offline (Cunard, Carnival, Travelvideostore, Norwegian, etc) and online (GRN, Coastal, YTB, etc) that have been seen by hundreds of thousands of people and what I shared with you above is the "inside track", NOT theory...if you want to be successful in the travel niche.

The "make money with travel niche" focuses a bit more on the make money aspect obviously, so find your middle ground if that is the case and enjoy the ride.

On any note, hopefully you can fill the gaps with the replies here and find your way.

I'll throw my two sense into the mix...

The travel membership niche is one that can be micro-niched down to selling the membership to people wanting to stretch their travel dollars or experience variety over, for instance time shares. Or niched another direction to market to 'entrepreneurial investors' seeking a high commission direct sales/network marketing gig. This latter micro-niche has been pretty good to me, and I believe it's built-in incentives will keep your motivation very high.

Best of luck in figuring it all out my friend, feel free to contact me with any Q's...

Anyone have had experience in receiving sponshorship from Hotels or flight companies so you talk about them in your travel niche?

What will happen if I narrow the travel to one destination (one city for example)? Is this doable? Can I somehow get other agencies to rent me their list so I can find my visitors and my customers?

I have a task to create a website promoting one city. I think I need to combine all attractions, hotels and deals.

Is this harder to do?

There are many travel affiliate programmes that offer between 2-5% commission per booking and they handle all the sales for you. Conversion rate will differ from 1 in 100 to 1 in 1000 depending on the company you promote.

But the earnings per click can be very high if you promote the luxury travel programs, ie cruises, all inclusive packages etc.... Family vacations are also good as the cost will be higher with more people booking.

There is potential to receive commissions as high as $400 per sale and with virtually no risk of refunds unlike clickbank products. It's a very competitive market but that's a good sign.

Chewie49,

Would you like some input on my travel niche? Many in my niche wind up
creating their own scenario of professional traveller/internet marketer and work from their laptops while travelling..."Lifestyle by design", if you will.

Cheers,

No one city works great if it is a highly visted city (ie: Las Vegas, Orlando, New York) I have a vegas site that does well.

fbivens,,

I would love to have more information. I really would like to become a professional traveler, as you mention, working with my laptop and promoting travelling services.

You don't think smaller cities can be an attraction?
