In most cases, all you have to do is upload the pdf in your Kindle publishing account. It transfers it for you. I have done it many times.

Thanks for getting back to me, yeah the only issue with uploading the PDF is that it converts it to black and white and then half the images are gone. The formatting gets sort of strange. If someone could convert it to kindle before uploading the pdf that might be what the trick is.

Kindle doesn't handle color. The Nook now does.

Go to createspace.com and it should help you. It will automatically convert it for you I'm pretty sure.

When uploading straight from a .pdf it's possible some of the formatting will get messed up.

If you have it in a .doc format already, then follow this guide from Amazon. If you follow those instructions it should ensure that everything is formatted correctly.

Perhaps you might need a pdf to doc converter first. Then maybe your formatting could stay the same, or at least be easier to work with to fix.

I have just published my first kindle ebook.

After a lot of trial and error I found the best format to upload the ebook is in basic, clean, html - in fact this is what amazon recommend. It is best to start with a text file and insert the html code. Trying to convert pdf to html or word or OpenOffice to html creates too many errors.

The cover can be in color and you should also use color for the inside images. Even though currently the Kindle only shows images in black and white, Kindle ebooks can now be viewed on a Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android-based devices, MAC and PC, with software provided free by amazon, and some of these will show the images in color.

Amazon does the conversion to Kindle for you. Once you sign up at Amazon Kindle to sell your ebooks, there are a couple of pages of details you need to fill in. There is a place to upload your document that you have prepared for amazon to convert.

What's the best software for creating eBooks (i.e. converting them into the file format)? Is it just Adobe?

If you're still in need of Kindle eBook Conversions, send me an email to: kindleebooks@makinthatcheese.com .
We create them using HTML from Word, PDF and Text. PDF does take a bit more work and adds a day to the delivery.

Our process is manual so that the documents produce professional Kindle eBooks that flow and look good on the Kindle.

We send you the zipped html and you can upload it to your Kindle DTP Account.
Our rates are cheap and we will have a Fiverr ad soon but warriors always get the best deal.

No price will be given here since this is not an official WSO but the service is available.

Like the furniture sales guy says: 'shop the rest and then buy from the best' or something like that. :-)

I just had Warrior shabit87 (Ryan) format The Clockwork Manifesto for Kindle. She did a great job, did it on time, and was very reasonable in price. I highly recommend her.

I do ebook conversions and I do them well, with five way nav points working index's and menus. I also optimize/design cover graphics. I do this for both kindle and nook.

Simple books starting at 59.00 dollars. The cost goes up depending upon number of pages, complexity of formatting and image placement.

    Pm me if your interested!

You can use mobi pocket creator as well as a whole host of other free programs online. It will technically get your ebook on the kindle. But if you want your customer to give you a good review and to buy other books from you. Its all about the user experience. You will have know xml to code the five way navigation and chapter jumping. google kindle TOC / NOC for more info. This is usually the difference between a 99 cent ebook and 5 or 9 dollar ebook.
