How much do you make with Amazon?

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering, how much money do people make with Amazon Affiliates?

    • I am planning to change my marketing efforts from Clickbank to Amazon asap. The problem is that I still think it is easier to make money with Clickbank but the money seems more ethical from Amazon. And I think that Amazon has better potential to make me a good affiliate business.

So I do not make money with Amazon today but will keep an eye on this thread since I am gathering all the information that I can about the subject.

last month I made 9k because it was December and this month I'm at 5k all from 10 websites that runs on complete auto pilot while I'm on vacation in South Africa. I for one love the Amazon aff program as it literally changed my life.

Thats simply superb ! I must switch to that soon then. Thanks. Do you use blogs or proper websites to promote Amazon products?

I use review sites built with Wordpress. Real easy to do once you've built a couple of them.

            Cheers

          Hi Jan,
I have been looking for a way to make extra income, and eventually quit my job, I saw your comments about the amount of money you've made and its large, at least in my view. Where do I start, I have a very limited budget and I suffer from "information overload" to much stuff out there. Where to begin? Who to trust?

          Thanks,

          Antonio

So how long did that take you to accomplish? How much did you spend on outsourcing and backlinking etc? 10 sites at 5k is great. I think a lot of people would like to know the "how".

I have 1 amazon site that was done as a test using Jan's system. It's about 3 months old and not receiving much traffic and no sales. I've done some promotions and link building but not much results.

I really think the problem is the product I chose may be too competitive. I still don't have a handle on a good way of finding a product to promote. If anyone has a good system I'd be happy to hear about it.

I am in some very hotly competitive markets selling high end Amazon products, and none of my websites have ever ranked higher than about 10,000 from the top.

Besides some advertising, what I do is write articles and submit them to thousands of high PR websites, blogs, targeted ezines, and even offline outlets such as trade journals, magazines, and newspapers. This has consistently brought a combined income well into high five figures over several dozen websites.

Of course, this may all come crashing down if Amazon decides to pull out of California due to the retail tax issues.

Interesting, I thought your income came from promoting only info products or self-made products.

Are these Articles about the product itself, or do you speak of something and then connect the solution to an Amazon product, or in some way similar.

I don't recall ever saying what my niches/products are except for one example I gave a few times in another context about "mesothelioma". Many books selling in this niche on Amazon are around $300 each. One book "Tumor Models in Cancer Research" for example is over $800. So yeah, I guess you could say I promote info products.

Actually, I do sell a lot of books, equipment and supplies in a few dozen other hot niches for example telecommunications, financial, industrial, medical, automotive etc.

I write articles regarding the problems facing these markets and provide the solutions, which luckily most of them can be found on Amazon. Other solutions can be found on CB, CJ, Shareasale, Linkshare, etc.

Ah, sorry my wording is horrible, maybe I should have said I "assumed". I do recall you mentioning the fact some of the books you promoted were in the tune of 300 dollars, and that one of those niches was... wait a sec, let me scroll down and just check what you said

                    Ah yes! "mesothelioma"

I don't know if you mentioned they were from Amazon, but that's pretty amazing

                    Thanks for the insight.

I have 7 blogs that earn consistently with Amazon. Since November of last year I've been averaging just over 5k per month, however I had my best month in February with just under 10k in earnings. This month has dropped back to around 5k.

Personally, I've found Amazon to be the simplest way to make commissions online. If you can rank a web page highly that reviews a product that sells well, then the commissions roll in.

I try to make sure I...

-Give a REALLY GOOD review. Put an original video, put original pictures, put original content, etc..

-Make sure I give the visitor everything they need to make a decision on buying. If you leave any piece of the puzzle missing, they will click off your site and go somewhere else to find it.

-Give alternatives to products you are reviewing.

And I live in Colorado where all Amazon Affiliates were dropped last March, so that's not an excuse!! Set up a company elsewhere.

The key for me was writing good quality long reviews, around 1000 words each. Because of that, I'm pulling in most sales at the moment from long tail keywords which my site ranks extremely well for without any back linking efforts. Just starting my back linking campaigns to improve my ranking for my main target keywords, in order to start scaling up the traffic. Amazon converts between 10-15% of the traffic you send them.

One thing though, unless you outsource it, it does take work to set it up. It's not one these push-button solutions that you see claiming you'll make thousands with little effort.

Put small gigs on freelancer.com and pay some writers from fiverr. If you find a good one offer them more then what they were making on fiverr (or more work if they are from freelancer)

To stay on topic of the thread I am making around $1000 per month on Amazon

It all depends on how many clicks you get, how much the advertisers are paying Google. The more they are paying Google, the bigger the cut for you. A lot of variables involved.

This month I'm set to make a little over $3K and this is my best month ever at Amazon. I started setting up Amazon sites last April, not really expecting much. By July I started seeing noticeable results, and by September I was really rolling.

My personal opinion (because I haven't read any of the Amazon WSO's yet) is that you have to take your keyword research seriously. Sometimes you don't wanna shoot for the most obvious keywords.

I don't always think about the primary customer, because that's where everybody else is headed. I think about secondary customers... who else might need the product, and what will they use it for.

You have to be creative with this stuff. Consider different angles.

        So far nothing,

but I just started. And my first side is just only a few days online. I look with Amazon for the future, and not for the short run. Amazon has great reputation. And I learned if you build your sides right and have enough passion. Than they ball will start rolling for you. As long you keep focus on it. And not change to something else.

Great advice here. I'm going to have to look at it that way. Just realized you have to sell a certain amount of items to get your % increased and then they start your stats all over the next month.

Before I started focusing on Amazon I was making between $25 and $50 if I was lucky. Then I honed my strategy last year and started really focusing on what works - December I was up to about $1300 which I thought was a Christmas fluke but I think I'm going to come in around $800 for January. Not bad earnings since I work full time and do this for "fun" lol

I just started out this year with Amazon. I have three sites already, and are seeing some great movement int the SERPS, It's a matter of time before the traffic picks up.

    Sales so far: $0

I's very encouraging to see movement early in the game as it keeps me motivated, although slightly demotivating if the movement is the wrong way

December I made just over 9 buck (started building mid November). January I made 21 bucks and last month I made close to 70 bucks.

So not huge amounts as yet but I consider this to have been my learning phase.
(It's not been a total waste of time as I've got a load of software tools and product Ideas as a result of this phase).

I've got a few things that I'm going to implement this month which I'm confident will bring a rapid increase in profits in the next 2-3 months.

Im having some Amazon sites built soon which i am outsourcing. Should i tell the outsourcer anything specifically regards to the on page SEO or is the process of the keyword research, etc.. the same as before the algo change?

The reason i ask is, one bidder for the project said that his SEO work would be done in accordance to Google's recent algorithm change.

Got my first few dollars last week after the site is up and running for just 3 weeks and not yet ranking in page 1-10 on main keywords (ranking only on post articles' keywords for now).

Hope to do heavy promotion to see how the site converts when it's already ranking.

Lots of factors will affect this. While I am not involved in this directly, I have been told by others that the number of clicks you is a big issue. Basically, the more clicks you receive, the more money you will make. I know some people who are really pleased with having earning some extra "pocket money" each month.

I don't make much money with Amazon because I don't have any Amazon based site up in top 10. I have a few sites on which I am doing SEO. They will be up within one month or so. Once they are up, I expect to make at least $400 per month per site.

built 11 sites this month well the first batch went live the beginning of March, I should hit somewhere just under $300 this month. My first month! so I am pretty pumped.

Need to really start getting traffic, I have a couple page one rankings but my tricling traffic comes from exact product name searches which end up converting. I will spend another month to get some really good back-linking going to these 11 sites then I will build 10 more starting Amazon. My goal is to show a 50% increase every month.

One tip that you will find around the forums that really helps alot make one site a low cost very popular product, like an accessory for a popular product. These convert well and will help boost your commission % fast, in turn make more money per sale on your big ticket items.

I made 34 Squidoo Amazon lenses with minimal profits. Then I took a course and made one (my first) Wordpress site according to directions. My site went on Google's first page very quickly in Jan. and is still there, one of the top 3 on page one. I made $124.24 in Jan...my first real Amazon money. I intend to make more but up to now family situations have delayed me. Onward and upward!

I am not presently working with Amazon, however I do have a friend who is making thousands each and every month, so I know it can work.

Many people, like one of the warriors above, have more than one site and do let them all sell for Amazon. Traffic is the key to any kind of money, whether it's Clickbank, eBay, or Amazon. Good luck in everything you do!

Nothing atm, but i have just started out after getting one of the well publicised WSO's on here

I think my site is too broad based. Pages rank, not sites though, so i'm hoping to get individual posts/pages to rank, each of which is a subniche/product area comparing products.

I'm hoping this will be at least moderately successfull but even if it isnt I finally took the plunge and did something in IM. so thats the winning part for me even if its unsuccessful!

Actually this thread reminds me that I need to get back to writing a load of articles

Interesting question. We've been an Amazon affiliate for 3 years. Tried all kinds of ways to drive traffic:

    1) Building niche websites, coupling adsense and Amazon links and building links
    2) Driving Amazon sales leveraging our celebrity clients
    3) Straight up Amazon links via website and email

The most conversions we've had was leveraging our celebrity brands. Why? Because it's already put the visitor in a "trust" factor mode.

Mind you, the payout is pennies on the dollar, but the celebrity brands drive pretty decent volume and a certain % do buy based on the brand.

I Finished my couching on 1 February this year. After 1 month and 5 days I earned my first $2. (very nice feeling)
During March I tried 3 to 5 coaching, 2/3 reports and other minor similar products.

I was trying to add value on my site using every single tip I learned.
I ended up March with $37.80.
1 site, seasonal niche with a peak in summer.

Tips for the newbies like me.

      Which course would you suggest?
Every course has got pros and cons. Some of them have got a lot of details some are just an overall explanation. In my opinion they complete each other.
I would go for Dan Brocks' Deadbeat Super Affiliate or Amazonian Profit Plan.

Do you use autoblog, amazon plugins etc?
I personally believe that all these plugins are not needed. I like to have control of what I write and I don't personally love to rely on plugins.

Unique content of copy and paste?
Great, Unique content and a lot of it. I like to write and in my experience I rank very well without a lot of backlinks. Maybe Google loves me!

      What Theme do you use?
Any nice and content focused theme. I don't like to follow the "best theme for amazon" trend as you end up finding all cloned website. A part from the huge footprint for reverse engineering which could help you finding niche gems, they all look ugly to me.

      Adsense or Amazon or Both?
I think it depends on the website. My review website earned $0.90 in 1 month with adsense.

Again, I have just started but I found out that affiliate marketing is a proper job that requires hard work, test, test and....did I say test already?

To summarize, I would suggest you to avoid the trends about the "latest autoblog" plugin or course or secret (like somebody would call it).

Use your brain and do the things properly without rushing.

As I usually say, to do things wrongly it take the same time to do them properly.

Amazon has threatened to leave Texas, and to close down its huge regional distribution center there. But so far it looks like their bluff may be working. The governor intervened and said "this may be a mistake", and the legislature is crafting some new rules to keep Amazon from leaving. I'm watching this closely, because there is similar pressure in California and the remaining states as well.

I started out with Amazon and made a little. Just as I started to get going Illinois passed the Amazon tax law and Amazon dropped its Illinois Associates. I figure you can make a lot of money if you have a lot of sites, make sure you do your research on each product your promote and use conversion techniques.

You will have to sell a lot of amazon products, to earn a decent amount. Once i sold about $3500 in 2 months through links, websites etc and i only received around $100.00.

I only ever actively sell amazon prodcuts from around september to December because of the christmas orders - it goes crazy then.

Amazon used to be decent until they removed the direct linking which i used on adwords.

If you have websites with good traffic then selling amazon products definately works as people trust it, as it is a good brand name.

I have success with sites that are something like...

      best(productkeyword).com
      or...
      cheap(productkeyword).net
      or...
      productxproductycomparison.org

I don't use any plugins to generate content. I have never had any success with anything other than creating my own content.

I don't use exact brand names for the above (productkeyword), but rather words like "end tables" or "kitchen mixers" or "portable dvd players" etc...

Then you can talk about the general topic of, say, kitchen mixers, then talk about a specific few models that are the most popular and review them in extreme detail.

At least that's what I do....

I have several sites that make $100-$200 a month, I use exact product numbers or names and focus on higher priced models and also I focus specifically on products that are not out on the market as yet, it takes extra patience, but by the time it hits the market I have done enough to be sitting in top spot on google and the sales start coming in.

I have more sites right now with products that are not on the market yet compared to ones that are, and I expect to increase monthly income quite a bit when the new products hit the market.

I can understand some saying that the commission is low, but the initial work is in the beginning and once you have built the sites, it is a residual income that comes in month after month and really the maintenance is minimal after they are up online.

Building multiple streams of income is always recommended, and Amazon is a great additional monthly income to the other streams of income.
If you focus 100% on Amazon it can provide a full time income, however I prefer to mix it up a bit, but it can certainly provide a full time income if focused upon.

I'm making a steady $300 to $500 a month, spread across the best 4 or 5 little review sites that I have.

Some of my other sites are a bit unfinished, but I'll have them tuned up and making a steady $50 to $100 a month, once I have some free time to work on them.

Conversion rate is pretty good at about 4% to 7%. Those sites are just one avenue, but they pretty much make money without much intervention from me. Though I still like to work on them a few hours each week, just to keep building them up.

Amazon is an awesome program and there are a lot of really good courses out there right now. You can make a decent amount of money, but you've got to do it right. I think the guys struggling are struggling because they're putting up one site and not really driving any traffic to it. The site is just one part of the equation, getting traffic is just as important.

I generally make between $600 and $800 a month. Here is what I do:

-I find the "hot" products listed by amazon. (or any niche product you want)
-I do try to find high ticket items since they pay more but I get good volume from the low dollar stuff too. It all equals out but I try to push the high ticket items when I can.
-I build a squidoo lens (yeah squidoo lenses) with that exact product name as the title usually
-I build amazon ad lenses similar to this lens (built for someone else through my gig on fiverr)
-I use a plugin I had made to turn out amazon ads like on the lens above very quickly.
-That plugin allows me to build attractive ads that I keep 100% of commissions instead of having to share them with squidoo.
-This all costs virtually nothing to do and it's a numbers game. I truly try to turn out 10 per day.
-To get traffic to my lenses i just plug articles into unique article wizard and link to my lenses. It's the only backlinking I do and it's crazy effective.

Here is a snapshot from June 6 2011 of my Amazon earnings so far this month. Oh by the way, for the past year I have doing all of this from my hootch in Iraq.

I've been selling on Amazon for a couple years now. Not through their affiliate program, but through my own Amazon store.

I've identified the service providers that liquidate Amazon's customer returns. So I purchase those returns at 10-25 cents on the dollar and resell them on Amazon as "used" products at 50 - 60 cents on the dollar.

It does require work, you have to purchase and sort products, repack, and ship them. But putting in just 10-20 hours a week regularly nets me $5,000-$8,000 a month out of my own garage.

It's as close to shooting fish in a barrell as you can get. I've never had a product NOT re-sell on Amazon.

That's thinking outside the box. It's not as automated as some affiliate marketing is but it sounds as if that is a lot more reliable. I imagine you really don't have to deal with much competition either do you?
        {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[4033270].message }}
        • Profile picture of the author stig57
There's very little competition. What makes it so simple is that the products already exist on Amazon. There are no pages to create, just add your item to inventory and set the price.

I've expanded it a bit to include about a 1/2 dozen liquidation services for a broad range of products. I only sell Amazon returns on Amazon, but eBay has been very good for all other products. It's easy enough to research what items are in demand on eBay and what's typically bid. Buy your liquidation stock at 40%-50% of the typical bid price and you're assured of successful auctions.

I've been working on a 12 week course to put up as a WSO.

Amazon has in its search function for sorting the results by bestselling, high to low prices, low to high prices, or avg customer review. As I have mentioned previously some of the categories I promote are high end industrial, scientific, medical, health, communications, technology, automotive, home and garden, office, sports etc. With their ingenius conversion system, usually buyers will also often buy in quantities of the less expensive products within the same order such as related supplies, accessories and comparably/tangentially suggested items.

I have been both dismayed and intrigued to see Amazon's product content cross over into industrial products. It's created some competition for my own sites, but it's also created new opportunities for me in industrial sales.

Industrial products almost always carry a higher price and far less competition for traffic. Exactly what you want as an affiliate.

Been looking to advance my Amazon sites but haven't gotten around to it. Seeing all these people making regular money with Amazon has me thinking now is a great time to finish some of my Amazon sites.

I put up 2 sites about 4 months ago, they're bouncing around google, get the odd bit of traffic... my keyword analysis wasn't great.

Since then, I picked up a wso for just under $100, thought it was time to do it right.

I've 4 sites I'm working on now, they're pretty new, so aren't really ranking yet... but, they're built a lot better than my earlier versions.

Up until 2 days ago, my amazon earnings since Feb of this year was $2.

Then, in 1 day, I had 5 sales(from one of my earlier sites). The site in question is promoting products in the $30-$70 range... but someone, coming from my affiliate link bought a hoover for $450! so, even at a measly 4% commission, I got over $17 for that one sale, and made $22 in one day.

This has really opened my eyes to the power of amazon. I'm still learning, but it's all pretty exciting

One tip that I've recently discovered is the power of buying keywords... I was too focused on exact monthly searches in the begining, targeting just the product name or type... now I know, you have to target people who are in buying mode as apposed to research mode.

Amazon is all about the traffic, and ofcourse the more you make, the more your rate increases, but like any site, the traffic, and more of it is what aides conversion

There are some really great threads here on the forum that you could learn alot from. Just use the search function to look for 'Amazon' threads and you'll find some very useful tips from people who are making money with Amazon. Those threads alone would probably be enough to get you started.

If you want to spend money, there are great products by guys such as Jan Roos, Ryan Stevenson & Dan Brock. And there's 1 on 1 coaching available here from Michael Franklin - I haven't done the coaching myself, but from what I've heard, it's well worth the investment.

wouldnt adsense be better an option? i am saying because conversion is hard to get than clicks? Also i have seen only marketers say they have made money and not much people who actually make it
