Hey warriors,

I'm new to all of this. I just got into affiliate marketing and I've been promoting a product for about a month now. It's my first time ever really doing this...

I managed to get 70 hops with clickbank, but zero sales so far...

so I have a two part question:

first, what can I do to actually break through that wall and make that first sale? is it normal to get 70 hops and 0 sales? how many hops until I get that first sale?

second, are there any affiliate programs that pay you per hop? for example, is there an affiliate program that would pay me to send traffic to their sales page...? pay per lead sort of thing? is that available on clickbank? if not, where can i find it?(if it exists)

thanks guys! Really appreciate it.

First off how many of those hops actually went to the order form. If you had none go to your order form at all it is more then likely just the link being picked up and crawled. For every time I make a post I get a surge in hops but no order forms. Typically though you could expect about 2% to convert depending upon the products landing page.

If you are looking for something to pay you per visitor you need to have a look at cpa. It is about the only thing that you would get paid per hop per say since in many cases all they have to do is enter in an email or even just a zip code.

Hops just mean those are visitors to the page. The visitor may well be just a bot picking it up. So it is not uncommon to have that many hops and no sales. It also depends on how you are bringing in the visitors to that page. I have gotten well over 70 visitors to a product I am promoting just because I tweeted it. However none actually went to the order form. There for they are just browsers and not actual buyers.

So no this is not unusual at all. You need to be preselling them so they are more inclined to buy what you are offering.

    Also note that

So from here is it means you bring 628 unique visitor to your link, and 36 peoples click on the order button, and 6 peoples actually brought it.? And 2 people get their refund so eventually you have 4 sales in total?

Sometimes It isn't you, it's most likely the sales letter.

Just explore many avenues of advertising such as PPC or get start an email list and promote through there.

Other than that you may reconsider a new product.

Or, you could get a PLR ebook and get a sales page made (don't be cheap, buy a copywriter) and put it on a website. 100$ commissions!

That really is too small a sample to start to worry. the 71st and 72nd could be sales.

I usually start to analyse stuff after I get about 500 hops,

Dude relax, I think you will do just fine if you persist.
I just made my first sale a few days ago, with only 5 hops. I keep getting the feeling though that it was just luck, and I might go on now for a month, getting 100 more hops, and all of them hopping away...
What I did learn though, and I think will help you improve your stats, is make whatever it is your selling, VISIBLE!
I think the main reason I made my first sale so quickly is the fact that my ad is enticing and more importantly, on every page of my blog, at the top.
        Hope this helps.
Keep your chin up, your time will come buddy!

It can be a number of things.

But first and foremost the amount of traffic you have cannot statistically determined anything. It is just not a large enough sample size.

But, if the trend continues it can be a number of factors.

First, I would look at the quality of traffic you are sending.

If you are sending traffic from an auto surf exchange you will never get a sale.

Next, I would look at the sales letter itself. Does it convert? What is the conversion rate? Will the vendor actually allow you to install tracking code on the thank you page?

These are all things you need to ask yourself.

Next, I would look to see if there are any holes in the actual sales process.

What I mean when I say holes is I am wondering if they are collecting leads and then removing the cookie with a different affiliate link?

          Trust me, that stuff happens.

But to go back to my first point... The sample size you are using is not large enough to statistically prove anything.

          Talk soon,

Yeah 70 hops could easily = 0 sales. A GREAT overall conversion rate for a sales page is between 1-2%. At 1% you would need to average 1 sale per 100 hits. That's actually pretty tough to pull off for most people.

And... I think there is something weird with how clickbank hops are tracked. I have several info products, and the number of hops from affiliates are always way more than what google analytics tell me. There might be a simple explanation for that that I'm just not aware of...

It could be a number of factors, how good is their sales letter?

There are two things that really will affect the ratio greatly. The first is, of course, the sales letter of the product. The second one is you, ie. the pre-sell. Some people can sell anything to anyone and even a bad sales page after their pre-selling will not derail the sale. It's up to you. Oh, and another thing is that you need thousands of clicks before you can get any statistically significant sample. Good luck and don't get hung up on stats., don't let it get in the way of doing the work and succeeding.

If you are 100% honest, offer a GREAT price, etc... and presell, you may make 100 sales for every 100 unique visits! If you lie, and/or DON'T presell, you may not make 1 sale in 1000 visits. And HECK, each unique visit could have 70 hops itself. I ASSUME you mean visit, and not hops.

Good point, but my most successful non IM products have been ones where i built up a good level of affiliate sales then created my own product and directed my sites to my product.

No one is going to pay you per hop because you could just send them a whole lot of junk traffic. You need a much larger number of hops before you have anything you should be worried about. I would be waiting until I had at least 500 - 1000 hops before you drop the product.

well 70 hops isnt enough sometime... and it really depends on your product and your sales letter...

well it can also depend on the niche and/or how they were able to get to the affiliate site.
My first sale for this year is= 2 hops/1 order form count/1 order form submit = 1 sale
..but then there's my other niche where i drove 140 hops/0 order form/0 order form submit = 0 sales.. hard one.

It depends on many different factors, but the bottom line is that 70 clicks means nothing. I wouldn't stress about it until you hit 300 clicks with no sale. Then, something might need to be tweaked. One of the big factors is the quality of your traffic. Where is it coming from? Are you attracting possible buyers, or people who are just surfing the web looking for some free info...or are you drawing people who probably have no interest in your topic whatsoever?

There are many factors that need to be considered like... the quality of your traffic, the product's conversion rate etc

Also, it's not uncommon to get 70 visits without a sale even if you are getting targetted traffic and the product converts... you should look for a different product if you satisfy the above 2 factors and you don't get sales after 200 clicks

You shouldn't be complaining about 70 hops and no sales, because I had 500 hops and no sale
But thanks to some advices I got from another thread now I know where to improve, and hopefully I will have more luck in the future...

Totally depends on the traffic you are sending. If this is a crappy traffic, you may get 1000 hops and still NO sales.

To have a good sample though, in order to make some conclusions,i would wait to have more than 500 hops, before i make any decisions.

I agree with garage, where is your traffic coming from. normally on our campaings in clickbank, if we are getting highly targeted traffic and listbuilding we get lots of healthy sales each and every week. But it is not as easy as it sounds. Its lots of hard work, that is for sure.
