Do I need to start over?

So I was consistently writing articles everyday for a website thats been up about a week and have seen about 500 pageviews in about 5 days... Unfortunately I got sick and missed a few days of writing and submitting articles and now I have no traffic... Should I start over, can I,.. or do I need to get a whole new domain and market?

p.s. The articles had been submitted to about 5 different article directories including Ezinearticles day to day consistently

There shouldn't be a need to get a new domain though, just change up the traffic source. sounds like a lot of work to me, for what is not consistent traffic. I would recommend trying to work on SEO or other traffic methods that can be a bit more passive.

I just don't know what I'm doing wrong? I'm targeting great keywords and stuff and its not super hard to find my site in google, though I'm not top ranked. But I wouldn't expect to be in a week

If the site is only a week old, I would say "keep writing". It may take a few months before your traffic (assuming it is search engine traffic) really starts to become sustainable. At least this has been my experience.

First of all 1 week is nothing.
      Ok, Let me help you...
Great keywords? Answer to these questions and we will let you know if you did anything wrong.
What is the total exact searches per month? How many sites are competing, allintle, allurl ? How strong are the first 10? Page Rank and numbers of backlinks of the first 10? Are there buying keywords?

no, not at all. I go days without doing stuff on some sites sometimes. I also have some sites I haven't even logged into the admin panel in 1 year on.

I don't know I feel like maybe I should switch my market, perhaps the ebook about cholesterol I am promoting isn't that great,... I think its the best one in that market at clickbank though

1 week is way too early! keep writing, don't look up and don't stop.

Do this for at least 2 months everyday and then you should get a better indication if your method is working.

I'm not saying you'll make hundreds or thousands of dollars in 2 months but you should know if your traffic and earnings are improving and then you just keep going!

500 page views in your sites first week is pretty impressive, honestly. There is no need to purchase a new domain... The site is so new, there no need to worry IF you lost any ground... B/c you didn't lose any ground.

      Just get back at it.

Even a neglected site can bounce back, and I wouldn't even put yours in that category!

      Congrats on the Traffic!

Yah except today I literally only had 2 visitors. Yesterday it was 5, and the day before was like 50 I think. I actually have a 66 page E-book on lowering cholesterol,.. I'd love to sell this cheap and basically make all the profit, but I would have to put it on like clickbank or something I'm sure; and I honestly had to drop outta a 3d modeling college here in Orlando, FL it was right at Universal Studios. I was doing great but the students and director hated me and put me down said I would never go anywhere,... So I am literally broke

If your site is only a week old, it might have been or is still going through the Google dance. You rankings up and then down and up and then down.

I would try to find out what page you're articles are currently ranked at. I think SEO book has a free rank checker tool.

Another thing you could do is write a guest post for a high-traffic blog that's related to your subject. Make sure the article is of good quality and offers useful, detailed information to the reader. That ay you can draw live targeted readers to your site for free.

A few missed days won't do you any harm, just get back into it and keep going. A week is too soon to see results of ranking and sales, it can take a couple of months for a site to settle into a spot in the search engine rankings.

If you give up after a week, then you will likely start something else and give up on that after a week and you'll never stick with something long enough to give it a chance.

I really suggest you keep going with this and don't let a few missed days set you back!

I agree with the rest here. You shouldn't worry about missing a day or 2 or even a week. Also it sounds like most of your traffic is coming from your articles anyway since most article sites have a "recently posted" page that a lot of people view first when they do their search on the site. I would work on optimizing your site and use the bios for each article to work on your main page with the anchor texts.

    Just my 2c.

Actually, that's not quite right. Here are the EXACT search numbers using the Google External Keyword Tool in the US. (You have to uncheck Broad on the left hand side and check Exact).

      how lower cholesterol
-- 210 global monthly searches for exactly that phrase

foods for lower cholesterol -- 16 global monthly searches for exactly that phrase

lower cholesterol foods -- 480 global monthly searches for exactly that phrase

diets to lower cholesterol -- 480 global monthly searches for exactly that phrase

diets lower cholesterol -- 58 global monthly searches for exactly that phrase

When you look at the Exact number of searches, it's never as many as listed in Broad.

There are 3 common mistakes almost everyone makes when they're first starting out with SEO:
      (1) They target keywords with too low of an Exact search volume.

      (2) They target keywords with a lot of competition from well-established websites then expect to see immediate results.

      (3) They write crappy keyword-stuffed articles for the search engines and completely lose sight of the fact that the content is consumed by real people looking for quality info.

Sure, they might find your article, but will it build trust with them and encourage them to click your link? That's the key.

I just copy and pasted the keywords he said he was targeting.

Keep up the good work, 500 views then the traffic dropped off, what method are you using? and are you building backlinks to your site or articles?

Rome was not built in a day, and the number maybe low, but any traffic is better than none, most guys stick to all the bs keyword rules, build your site, get authority, and if you really dont make any good money with the ebook, put adsense on the site.

Something that should help, assuming that you are putting these articles on your site first...

Once a new article is indexed on your site, submit that article to the article directories for the backlink and added traffic. Don't link from one copy of the article to another, but otherwise it is fair game. I would either link to a product review article on your site or an opt-in form personally.

Don't worry over the missed week, it won't hurt as much as stopping will.

All my articles are original content. The ones I have submitted to article directories have a link using the keyword to another article on my website (not the same article) an another link to the main page of my website

Hello, I'm new to this forum, but I was reading your post and just thought I would ask you a question. I am also posting articles and I posted one to articlebase...com yesterday, and I seen it published on the internet with all my links changed to someone elses website. have you ever had something like this happen to you? If so could you give the names so I don't make that same mistake again. Writing articles is hard for me and to have someone steal them really hurts.

Look up DMCA on the search tool at the top right of this page, you'll find a nice document you can send them.

You may need to dig around the search tool but that'll help you figure out how it works.

Just one question, you published it yesterday and someone has already syndicated it? (although illegally).

There's a number of things you can do here, one respected Warrior here even contacts them and politely tells them they forgot to put in the correct links. This can lead to a happy family relationship or...

...If they don't listen, the said Warrior screws them with a DMCA and as I re-collect sends a nice letter to the article directory, Google and their site's server.

I edited my last post to show you the results I got in the Google keyword tool. Here it is again:

lower cholesterol foods and diets to lower cholesterol have 480 global monthly searches. That's on the really low end of the search volume I would target when creating content.

But that's me. It really depends on what strategy you're using and how you're going to monetize your site.

There isn't a "one size fits all" strategy. Sure, you can learn from other marketers ... but you have to pick and choose then test to see what results work for your business.

Originally Posted by dsbusiness23 View Post

Of course you did. We all do. Every single one of us.

"Mistakes" aren't anything to be afraid of. They're the best learning tools in the world. It's just feedback based on actual results.

You try something. You get some feedback through your results. You learn. You try again.

It's a never-ending cycle and you're going to keep going through it as long as you're running a business.

Think of your articles as little traffic-generating machines you've created. You created them and sent them out in the world. Now they're assets out there working for you.

You've seen what happens when you target keywords with really low global monthly search volumes.

Why not try writing articles targeted at some higher volume keywords like Steve showed in his post?

What's the worst that could happen? You create more little traffic-generating machines and you get more feedback.
