Hey Gang,

I just tried to sign up for a blog site, and it wouldn't let me sign up -- it said that my IP was blocked.

What should I do in this situation?

In Many Thanks,
Tom

If you're on a static IP... I'd recommend contacting an admin.

If you're on a dynamic IP, could be someone previously abused under this IP... just restart your router to try and get another IP and try again. My suggestions anyway

If you have a dynamic IP address do what Brett suggested, just unplug the modem and let it restart. When it comes back online you should be assigned another address.

Okay, static IP means you're assigned a fixed IP by your ISP which always remains the same whenever you connect to the internet - whether or not you have this will depend on the type of connection provided to you by your ISP. Typically this is a premium feature that is not offered on basic connection packages.

With dynamic IP, you'll get a different IP assigned to you by your provider, and this changes between internet sessions. You can also force an IP change by resetting your router and connecting to the internet after that.

If your IP is blocked and you have dynamic IP, just reset the router and check your IP to verify that it has changed.

    Hello Tom ,
Static ip is the ip which not changes and dynamic ip is which changes after every 20 - 30 min . So if your ip is static then your ip was added in the sites ban ip list and if your ip is dynamic then no problem your ip will be changed after some time and you can again goto the site .
Check your ip by going this site What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address
And note down the ip and again check it after 30 min if the ip is same then your ip is static and if it changed then its dynamic ip .

    Hope this helps .

    Thanks

Just contact the admin, that would be a lot easier to do than mess up...

OK so i checked my IP, and it looks like it's static... so now when I contact the admin of the blog that this occured on -- What do I say? Do I just tell them if they can unblock my IP address? -or- do I word it differently?

      In Many Thanks,
      Tom

While you are trying to sort this out with your ISP, you could try using proxy to work. Try the free vpn proxy at Hotspot Shield. This will hide your IP while surfing online and nobody can see your blocked IP address. This service has a lot of ads. If that bothers you then try Hide My Ass! This is about $10 monthly service. It will save you future hassle.
