Participate in relevant forums, try deal sharing forums and forums alike eas your forum discusses Amazon products people are keen to find reviews on deals and include a link to your forum in your sig (if allowed).

It's really hard to be specific as there are many ways of generating traffic, SEO, PPC, etc. Do you have any funds you can invest?

Forums are one of the hardest things to keep long term on the internet, in my mind.

I suggest buying as much traffic as you can to see if people will stay in the forum.

Try fiverr.com and get some people there to Twitter to thousands and Facebook as well, you will soon have traffic and members coming in. It only cost $5 a pop!

I can't remember which Warrior suggested this but it was very recent and went something like this.

Create the forum then create a site where you give away or sell at a good price something highly relevant to what the forums subject is about.

When they get this, they sign up and at the same time become forum members, only they don't know this yet.

When you have 500-1000 people on your list, you email them all to tell them about the great forum you've started but for them, they're already members and it's free. You then give them their user and passwords (which you created when they signed up for the free stuff)

If my memory serves me, that way when you do start advertising the forum, it's active, there are members and some of those initial members may become moderators.

Now I may have butchered this a bit but do a search on this and you'll find the guys full answer, it was in the last week I'm sure. I thought it seemed quite a reasonable idea.
