Monetizing A Site - Amazon or Adsense?

Hi guys and gals,

I have a site that is starting to make a little money on both Adsense and Amazon. It is not a high CPC keyword but it does well on Amazon as the physical products do cost a lot more.

So I am thinking of removing Adsense totally from the site layout as the trickling income from Adsense is lesser than what I could get from Amazon even with just 2 sales in December. I have about 1,400 uniques a month, 3300 pageviews.

Another motivation behind this thought is that Adsense brings visitors away from the site, instead of keeping them on my product reviews which could lead them to eventually buying something from Amazon.

Any experience to share on whether this is a good idea?

Yes I agree with you. I think you should try it if you have good content and provide value to the visitor. I personally don't use Adsense on any of my sites. I prefer promoting affiliate products and my own products. Plus I don't like the fact that google has tendency to suspend Adsense accounts out of nowhere as seen by the countless testimonials you will find on this site. I also think sites look better and have more 'trust' without Adsense splashed about.

This is just my opinion, as you will find others who love adsense and make good money with it. It's funny, I've read that some people who make good money with adsense actually don't have good content on purpose, hoping that the visitor clicks on an ad in an effort to actually find valuable info.

    [QUOTE=CrispyDuck;3279183]Hi guys and gals,

You should diversify your efforts. What happens when the market goes from buyers to just info seekers. You are only going to convert your traffic at about 2% weather they are a buyer or a info seeker. However you will realize that that actually becomes 4% because you are focusing on 2 different types of markets.

2% of your info seeker traffic will either buy or click off your site. While 2% of your buyers traffic will either buy or click off your site. Except when the buyer clicked off and liked what you had to say instead they simply hit the browser back button and came back to you.

This is just my opinion but it is entirely up to you if you want to focus your efforts on just one source. No one can really make that decission but you for we do not know the actual niche you are in so can not tell how profitable it might be for your adsense ads. But I personaly think you should keep them which would increase your chances of income from your site. Again though that is just my opinion

      Test test test...

Try different combination of ads, different affiliate programs, you might lose a bit of money now but once you've optimized your revenue you make it up and more

Sales are usually better than average in December for most Amazon products. Personally, I find Adsense far more profitable than Amazon. But of course this depends on many factors ranging from the cost of the product you are promoting to the colors on your website.

Split test or just put Amazon only for one week and then use Adsense only for the next. The results should disctate your decision.

If you are not into Click fraud and other anti-google activities, you will unlikely ever lose your Adsense account.

I use both on most of my sites, but it's also a good idea to check out companies in your niche offering higher rates of commission and adding some sidebar links.

Yeah you need to test, and then remove whatever is not the best performing avenue. You don't want there to be a lot of places for people to click on your page, except for what you want them to click on... which would be your best performing links.

If that's the case, I suggest you keep Amazon, although it is easier for me to make money online with AdSense.

Thanks to all of you for your valuable advice!

I shall do split testing and go through Feb without the adsense ads and see how the site performs. Then for Mar, I shall restore the ads and do a comparison. This should give me a better idea from there.

Thanks once again guys, appreciate it!

I prefer Affiliate CPA sources as well instead of Adsense which could offer some revenue partially but people are mostly aware of this ad types and are rarely clicking on them ...but this is from my experience i believe it depends on the type of the website , the ages which are visiting the site and the content ....

I would do both. The more types of income you have, the less likely it is that you will have trouble down the road. What if your bounce rate gets high and your adsense CPC goes down? Then you still have amazon income.

On the other hand, if in april (after everyone has paid their taxes and has no money) your adsense will probably bring in more. Just my $.02
