Pretty cool! I got exactly what I wanted for it and it was a painless process. Now I wish they took adult sites.

Anyone else flipping any sites?

I'd like to give it a try....

It is hard to get started? What is involved? Do I need to create a full website and have good traffic going to it before it is saleable?

You can flip a virgin site with no traffic stats. You should know that the more the traffic and revenue made from the site, the more the money you will make flipping.
I have three sites all together that i am flipping now (see my signature below) with 400 monthly unique traffic but the sites are gorgeous with money making potential build around hot niche.

Once you create a full website, you can flip it if you want.

In Flipping a site a lot of factors come to play to make the end business worth while; the traffic, the revenue, the niche, the design and content,
Among all these traffic and revenue have a lot role to play with how much bid you receive for the site.

Sold a site last september for 20,000. I've been thinking about just flipping sites but I don't want to do smaller sales, too much work involved for the money.

I've tried a couple times one time the bids didn't meet my reserve so I kept it. Another time it sold but the bidder never paid. I didn't send him the files so no loss on that front.

Was it a new site or established?

Hey you can setup the adult site Flippa version. Fill the void.

Richard, while the titles are quite catchy and have a certain je ne sais quois about them, I think Flippa might take offense to your proposed names.

You sold a site for 20k but your unsure about flipping smaller ones?

What was the site you sold for that much? A long established one that had been going for years? I'm just interested in what the site was like that got that much and how long it took to get it to the stage it was worth that much.

That's a lot of dollar, can you shed some more light on that. I have lot's of sites, I could do with a quick cash injection like that.

Oh... it is not quick at ALL! Sorry if I made it seem like it was easy and quick, it was a message board community that had about 10,000 members in the music industry niche. I had it since 2001. Monetized it by selling advertisement space monthly.

A few years ago I had a domain that sold for 15,000 to a local news station. That was pure luck. No technique to it. Just a city related domain name that I was lucky enough to have a news station want to own!

Well, I struggle with letting things go. I have ideas for all my domains just sitting there, and the potential income from them can far outweigh what I could get for it. I don't have a domain name, that I don't believe can make over 1,000 a month. So I really don't want to make a site that I believe has huge potential, and not getting what I want for it.

That's fair enough. I just thought you'd built a site and sold it for 20k. I was thinking we may need to talk!

I didn't mean I didn't believe you, I was just thinking, I'd be doing it quite a lot if I was turning a few of them over a month.

Good for you, keep it up.

I may put a few of my sites up to test the water.

The first site I flipped was for $850 dollars. I own it for almost a year.

The second site was for $350 which I had owned for 2 months.

Is that the Christian baby names site? From the looks of it she's got top rankings for most of the main keywords in that niche including on the first page (#7) for Christian names and #1 for Christian Baby Names.

The site looks great it's running a mySQL db that is pretty cool. So I can see it being valuable for someone in that niche already or a super affiliate type who knows that they're doing marketing-wise in that niche.

        x3

But from a newbie perspective lol. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the bidding....seems like some sites like the OP's go for $600...but in the next minute could go for $150. Have to study it more carefully I guess.

Domain flipping and site flipping are my calling I think...just don't know where to start. Stories like the OP's inspire me...but baffle me too.

Jennifer, what was your learning curve on this? Did you just jump in and hope for the best or....?

Because it's good for list building. I don't build lists, I sell products. There are a lot of "information seekers" that come to the site that might not buy on the site, but they might buy later.

    Congrats!

I have actually been wrestling with this for the past week. I have 600 sites, want to flip a couple and make some cash but I have no idea what I'm doing. So, have been reading, analyzing, reading, thinking, reading...

Basically, I don't want to screw it up. could be an expensive mistake.

good for you for jumping in there. I assume on Flippa? was it a problem that you had no feedback history there?

thinking about it forever... I have a lot of how to's but with so much info and too much to do I haven't taken the time to figure it out.

As in how much trouble to transfer and how much trouble or do I "even" transfer all my work... I guess I have been lazy when it comes to this and have actually let page one #1 spots go because I don't know how to do this...

I have an expired can still save it domain that is #1 or #2 on google (depends on the day I guess) that I am not going to renew because it didn't really make me any money.... is that dumb or smart?

If I could flip one or two that do make me a buck or two per month so I could build more I would be happy

Congratulations - 10X monthly earnings is definitely towards the higher end of the spectrum, so you must have done a good job in marketing/selling your domain!

I'd love some input on selling a domain I don't know what to do with: antiagingreviews.com. I started out doing massive Unique Article Wizard backlinking, as well as tons of EZA when I first got it, so at any time when I put even a tiny bit of backlinking effort into it, it sits between the number 1 and number 2 spot in Google for the domain-matched keyword "anti aging reviews, which gets around 12 000 searches per month in Google.

The thing is, it's in a niche I'm not that interested in, so I can't for the life of me muster up the effort to be creative enough with the site that it makes good money. So for the time being, the domain rests on a somewhat uninspired anti-aging related FLOG.

How do I go about selling it (once I've popped it back in the #1 position), and how do I know what to ask for it?

        Any help is appreciated.

I wonder how that works with Googs... if you swap out the banned account ID with your own un-banned in good standing account would that make it all good? Then it would be an even better deal.

First thing I would do on that bad boy is put an opt-in form to start building a list. Export all the names in the DB and pretty them up by creating an e-book with all the names in there to sell or use as the free report for the email address.

My site wasn't earning at all. That's why I sold it. I couldn't monetize it whatsoever. I tried AdSense and CPA offers.

I think the only reason it sold so high is because of its rankings. No idea.

that's fantastic! inspiring. I set this aside a few days ago but am going to pick it back up.

It's the whole "earnings now" vs. "potential" that has me scratching my head I guess.

Yes - 600 sites - domain renewals suck but are spread out. Not all are autoblogs, but many. It's a bear to manage but that's why I have 3 full-time outsourcers.

The thing is, I start almost ALL of my sites on used domains already so there's already value there.

    nice job Jen!

I have a site that has 200 uniques a day and makes a few amazon sales a month but I know someone who really knows the gaming niche could kill it with this site! I want to keep it because it has potential, and a nice #1 ranking in Google but haven't had time to keep up with it, it almost needs to be updated and content added daily.

I wonder what the going rate is, do people sell sites that are monetized via amazon affiliates?
