Selling ad space or affiliate?

Which is more beneficial?
What type of website prospers more from one or the other I guess..
I sell ad space on my main bread winning sites- but have just started venturing off in the internet marketing education direction and am trying out affiliate ads, but it's too soon to tell.

I suppose I'm asking to find out if I'm wasting my time or not..

Well... because there are many knowledgeable people here who would like to save me time and a headache by sharing their wisdom! Right? Right? .. ..

If I can't get as much success through Affiliate ads, why waste my time and prospective money? It doesn't hurt to ask..

**I don't always make it back to check on threads, so if you'd like me to elaborate feel free to PM me, I try to make sure to check my inbox regularly and am happy to help..

I wouldn't have pulled a $9k week w/Teespring etc without the help of others, so it's time to pay it forward.
I can make a little room in my life for that. ;)

If this is a new niche your trying I always use both, on a test basis, to see which would my target audience prefers. It is always best to let your visitors choose what they would prefer seeing when it comes to advertisements.

Without them realizing it of course!

Have you tried putting ads with your own affiliate links? That could be beneficial for you. It depends what how your site is performing. Could you do without the ads and still turn up profit with your affiliate recommendation, if yes then you could be more selective to whom you sell ad space.

Selling affiliate products through Ads may not be very effective esp. if the decision involves more explanation that you can fit in square box ad in your sidebar. You will have to do some in the content (should flow naturally) promotions for your affiliate links. This works very well and if you do some reviews of some products that you have used and are happy with, it can boost your response even more..

      Hope that helps.

      • It's my experience that selling say, Adsense ads, calls for sites with lots of pages--could be short blog posts, for example. Affiliate sales respond better to longer posts that are more thorough and crafted with the affiliate link in the text itself. YMMV.
