I am a newbie and when I go to affiliate program sites, I am asked for my website URL. My URL is brand new and blank. I wanted to use subdomains to create landing pages for each program I promote. I guess the problem would be the same if I were going to create a blog - it just isn't there yet? I have already tried to answer awkward questions about how I am going to promote, etc. only to end up turned down by the provider. I don't want to create a web site (landing page) for something I don't know if I will be approved for. What are they expecting? I must not be seeing something here. Let's just say I saw a great site promoting some backup program for computers (actually, I did try and was turned down). They want to know my website. It's blank - I am dead in the water. Do I have to have a succesful site promoting computer software? I have seen this so often, I don't know how to handle it. I know there is Clickbank and some that don't require such things, but I didn't want to eliminate everything else. Even if I did promote Clickbank products successfully, I wouln't know how to branch into these where they want the website and all the other questions answered. Thanks for any tips here - I am sure I am not the only one who wonders about this. |

Many affiliate programs require that you have a certain type of site and/or a certain amount of traffic. I suggest that you pick a niche (software for example) and write some articles about it on your site, submit articles to article directories, use sites such as Twitter, StumbleUpon etc. - in other words, generate some traffic to your site to show affiliate managers that you can do it. You might use Adsense to earn some income while you wait for affiliate approval. You could then create sub-domains or even just pages about specific software products you wish to promote. If you want to promote in another niche I suggest you get another domain and repeat what you have done on the first domain. Best Wishes, |

I'd start with things like Clickbank that don't require approval, so you don't waste time building up something that may never get approved. Many top affiliates don't bother with those programs that require approval.

Excellent plan here. I will start with Clickbank for starters. But, can any one give me a list of good programs eihter PPC or Commission for a Sale that are prettiy liberal and let me just send them traffic from PPC or my landing page directly even though they are not built yet? In other word, site that understand and work with newbies and their challenges. |

Duane, Here are some tips that help you to get accepted to a majority of these sites. 1) Use one of your subdomains to make a professional looking business website complete with phone/fax/name/address. 2) Just tell them you use PPC marketing instead of through web traffic since the domain is relatively new. 3) Give them a phone number with a voice message that sounds professional. Don't be blasting Guns N' Roses or Tupac Rap music in the background. 4) Use the email address that goes with your domain. Don't use yahoo or gmail or any of the free ones. 5) Also, just tell them you've been IM over 2 years. I know, just lie this time only. Jeff |

In my experience, once you are approved they never look again. Initially, I think some companies look to see that your site is relevant to their product. So I would suggest you keep to a theme. Don't try and sell health related products, mortgages and garden products from the same site. Once you've decided on your theme. Write a few articles or grab a few from Ezine articles, pick a nice theme and make your site look relevant. As I say, once you're approved they won't look again, so you can remove the articles and get on with selling the products you want to sell. |

I recommend developing a generic niche site to get you started with the networks - something like weight loss or credit cards whose related offers most of the aff networks feature. Study up on affiliate marketing as much as you can b/c most AM's aren't into hand-holding newbies. Definitely DO NOT try to pretend you know about PPC if you do not. It's better to state that you're just getting started than to get caught in a lie. |

I have been in many Affiliate Programs that never require some site authentication. But its better you get a Webspace. It's cheap nowadays. It's even better when you are promoting affiliate products with your website. Check out the Affiliate Programs that don't need strenous routines to get you verified.. And start Marketing Immediately even with your affiliate link. |

I know exactly what you're going through here! I've been in this situation where I know I can promote certain companies and as I try to join up to their affiliate program I am rejected because I don't have a site yet (I never spend money on hosting until I'm sure I can actually use the domain name I have bought)! What I have learnt to do in this situation is to just go ahead and design the site the way I would want it to be when I did eventually purchase hosting for it and then send the affiliate manager for the company I'm trying to join as an affiliate the notepad file containing the HTML of what my site will look like once I've been accepted by them! This way you are never paying for hosting until you actually need to and you get to show the company you want to advertise for what your intentions are should you be accepted! Hope this helps, Mark |

Thank you for all the replies. All of it is helpful. I do have a few specific questions here: 1) On these "generic niche sites" where I am just grabbing some articles, etc., do I just make them informative articles (because I have nothing to sell yet? Let's say I am wanting to sell a computer backup solution, would I just make a general computer tips site, or something like that? Or maybe just an info site on computer backup? 2) Does anyone have a list of names of affiliate networks that require no authentication at all, in other words, just sign up and give it a whirl? |
