Mobile is the near future. The ones that get it will be the next ones to make it big.

It's nothing new. Starbucks has this already in place throughout the US, where you pay for your latte just by waving your smartphone. I've been doing this for nearly 6 years offering SMS texting to major fast food franchisees, retail chains, real estate, insurance, etc. There is very little competition and huge profits. Recent publicity about advances with smartphones are driving the market making this much easier to sell than ever before. In the next few months the new iPhone and droids will have NFC (near field communications) technology so anyone can make purchases just by waving their smartphone. QR codes is another application rapidly advancing. If you are not offering this to your clients, you're leaving huge profits on the table.

Do people really buy stuff off of their phone? All my friends use it more as an info getting tool when they are out and about and need to look up something.

For companies I feel for the time being it would be more focused on email collection. Having advertisements redirect users to a simple email submit or zip code submit landing page.

However in the future, when making payments with your phone is more the norm and wireless networks and 4G is more popular, making a payment through your phone will be a part of everyday life.

I don't know about the UK, but in the US people are banking, paying for their fast food, ordering pizza and shopping by their smartphone more than ever. My company right now is installing SMS marketing and secure ordering applications for major fast food companies, restaurants, retail chains, real estate, auto dealers, insurance companies, transportation, manufacturing, etc. This is hot right now.

That's very interesting, in the UK we are only just talking about things like this, there is a slight hint that things are coming soon, but we are still waiting.

Perhaps you should consider sourcing out your business model to a partner in the UK or something, it might be a good business venture for you.
