Selling Amazon products

Hello Warriors,

I've been thinking of developing my own Amazon products site for a while, but I've sort of been drawing a blank as to how to get started.

Is there any good tutorial that I can use to learn about the basic nuts and bolts of an Amazon website?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks,

Pragun

Great thread guys. I have a site that is sought of just a hobby and am trying to generate some extra income from amazon. What are the best tools for a site that is not dedicated to amazon but trying to make money as an off shoot. My site is fishinghuntinginfo.com if anyone is interested in seeing what I am using at the moment. Not really working, not sure if it's the technique or just not enough traffic. I get around 1500 unique visits a month according to google anlytics.

It's not enough traffic. You want to get at LEAST 100 people to your site a day that way you can make sales each day at a 2-3% conversion rate.

Your site is not well monetized which is why you're not seeing any real money coming in. Here' what I'd do. Add a section where you review fishing and hunting products with text links to Amazon.com or/and other online retailers with your affiliate links in place. You can find these retailers aff programs on cj.com and Google's aft network. I know Bass pro shops and Cabellas have aff programs that pays in the 6-9 percent range.

1500 visitors a month is not bad. If you add the reviews and promote your site more your traffic will increase a lot and I believe you can earn a great income from it. You can also review the fishing and hunting guides on Clickbank.

        Cheers

Adam, I took a look at your site. If you're relying solely on those widgets to make sales, you can forget about it. I haven't come across anyone who has had any luck with them.

You're in a good market segment. Hunters and anglers can be every bit as fanatical about their sport as golfers, and every bit as willing to spend money on their sport.

Your best strategy is using in-content text links to specific, related items. Another good tactic for this type of site is real product reviews, again with text links. Read through the thread linked further up for some good ideas.

Adam, I read one of the articles on the site - the one on deep sea fishing. If that article is typical, and you paid money for the content, you should get your money back. The article I read was obviously run through a spinner, and if I had to guess, created by mashing two or more articles together before spinning. Not good...

If you are going after amazon you need to get more serious in it. There are some great plugins and courses to make it go for anyone.

There are some great Amazon Associates threads on the main forum that will give you a lot of actionable steps to take. Start with the 5 star ones and then look at the others to compliment the information.

Thanks for all the information guys.
I've been looking at Jan Roos's WSO for a while and it looks really informative!
I'm going to go ahead and purchase it in a couple of days.

Another question that's bee floating about in my mind is, Amazon offers really low commissions. Is it still possible to make a decent sum of money despite that?

Lots of people have concerns about the low commissions from Amazon so let me explain the difference between Amazon's 6-8% commissions and Clickbank's 75% commissions.

Let's say you get on average $19 in commission per sale from Clickbank. The average conversion rate for Clickbank products is 1% which means that for every 100 people you send to the sales page one person will buy the product giving you a commission of $19.

Now, with Amazon you will probably average at around 7% commission and if you promote products in the $200 range you will get around $14 in commission per sale. The big difference is that the conversion rate for Amazon is through the roof and in my opinion the best in the business. They have been testing and perfecting their sales process for years which is why they are the world's number one online shopping mall. I get on average a 9% conversion rate from Amazon which is unheard of. This means that for every 100 people I send to Amazon 9 items will be sold on average. Maybe 3 of those products will be for the original $200 product I am promoting and the rest is just random stuff people buy once they get to Amazon's site. So 3 sales at $14 = $42 for the 100 people I send to Amazon. Compare that to the $19 I'll get when I send 100 people to Clickbank and you'll see why the smaller commission rate from Amazon should not bother you.

      Cheers

    Jan is right.

And another thing that may or may not figure into his conversion percentages above are the rates of refunds on the digital ClickBank goods versus those items from Amazon.

Yes that's another thing I didn't even think of. I just read a thread here yesterday of someone who had their very first $100 day on Clickbank and then the next day he posted again saying everything was refunded. That sux big time and it doesn't happen a lot with Amazon.

      Cheers for sharing.
