Hi all, I am doing some research into another potential website. This one would be about a particular medical complaint and I was wondering if anyone knew where to get pictures or images of medical complaints from. For example if I was doing a website on cold sores, (this isn't what I am planning to do the site on by the way) where would you go to get images and photo's I don't seem to be able to find very many at Istock etc (not surprisingly) I thought I read months ago on the forum that there was a particular specialist website where you could get these images and photos from. Any input would be great as I need photos, images and illustrations, but I have no idea where to get them and if I don't have them, my site will be a lot less useful. Many thanks Carlton |

Do a Google image search on *.gov plus your desired illness. Then visit the site- if it is the federal gov't, generally the photos would be in the public domain. (That's not always true if it is a state or local gov't site.) I just did this and found all sorts of disgusting photos. Some that are federal are hhs.gov, cdc.gov, nih.gov, fda.gov To be safe look around for copyright notices or policies or TOS and try contacting them- generally, work (including photos) produced by US federal employees is in the public domain, since we taxpayers paid for them. If you scroll to the bottom of their pages you'll notice the lack of a copyright notice that a typical site would have. |

Number One...if you are not buying the rights to use the photo you can put yourself in a heap of a mess for stealing someones work. Last thing you want is to end up in court. My favorite site for medical images is here: Phototake Scientific and Medical Stock Photography This site has wonderful images, but they are on the pricey side. Feel free though to PM me for my contacts name and phone number to try to work them down on the price |

Check the CDC site and the licensing on each photo... many are in the public domain. http://phil.cdc.gov/phil/home.asp Charles |
