Websites Sales: The clutter Method VS. The Clean Method

I think my website looks a little too clean. Maybe a little too spacey.

I've got my (posts going down the middle of the page) (a sidebar menu widget) (an amazon sidebar under that) (google adsense side bar under that)

But my main page on worpress looks a little too bland. Which makes for an interesting topic of discussion..

What is better?? many different things to clink on, see and navigate through on a home page which takes time and multiple views to navigate and understand (meshed w/ many sales links and information links etc? OR simplistic easy to scan, view and understand homepage instantly upon first arriving..? MY MOTIVE IS SALES!

I've seen many "gurus" create pages with a lot going on in them that aren't strictly that clean looking..

What can I do to spice up my home page some??
How much spice is too much?? If any...

to be honest w/ ya, I'm a little hesitant to reveal my niche. I could show 1 or 2 people but I'd have to be sure they are so financially secure/established that they won't steal my niche. It's all I've got lol and the only way I'm making sales every week.

Well then it's hard to really say.

If you are selling digital products, I'd say go with a mini site type deal.

If you are selling physical stuff, put multiple products on there.

        Carson,

IMO lots of different things work but with my sites I have found it basically works two ways...

        The Simple Site
This gives a clear cut call to action when someone is on the page. They know what they are supposed to do next. They can get more info by clicking (Adsense) or buying (the product).
At the same time I don't like ugly or MFA sites and I would click away not thru so there has to be enough to appeal and capture the attention but not so much that the consumer is distracted from the action they are supposed to take.

        The Authority Site
With authority sites much more can be going on. People tend to stick around longer, read more, they become blind to a lot of those obvious action calls, so providing a multitude of options without going to over the top can be a good thing.

That has been my experience. And the style I choose for the site depends on the goal. Sometimes it starts out simple and evolves into a lot going on, depends on what products I add, if it is an Adsense focused site etc.

If your site doesn't feel right to you take a look at others in your niche and get some ideas.
Am happy to take a peek at your site if you would like, just PM me.
